# Prickly Furniture Pieces Sebastian Errazuriz's Magistral Cabinet is Perfect for Pinheads By Meghan Young | Published 2011-05-16 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/magistral-cabinet References: [fastcodesign](http://www.fastcodesign.com/1663836/pinhead-swoons-a-cabinet-made-of-80000-bamboo-skewers) & [meetsebastian](http://meetsebastian.com/) I already have a tough time with my one and only cactus -- I can't imagine how many times I would prick myself on this [unique Magistral Cabinet](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/weaver-cabinet). That is, if every point on this stunning piece of furniture was actually sharp. Thankfully, the edges are rounded enough to not hurt you, but pointy enough to give the piece a rather dangerous edge. Designed by Sebastian Errazuriz, the Magistral Cabinet seems to solidify his enchantment with all things prickly. Errazuriz's last design was called [Porcupine Cabinet](http://cdn.trendhunterstatic.com/phpthumbnails/95/95414/95414_1_120.jpeg) for a very good reason. Yet the Magistral Cabinet looks more like a torture chamber coffin rather than an animal. The Magistral Cabinet sports 80,000 [bamboo skewers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sharp-table), which took 12 woodworkers to hammer in over a span of six weeks. The Magistral Cabinet is currently on display at the [Cristina Grajales Gallery](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/faro-mixer) in New York. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.2/10 - Popularity: 45% | Activity: 42% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Prickly Furniture:** Designing furniture with prickly elements to add a unique edge to interior decor. - **Bamboo Skewer Art:** Exploring bamboo skewers as an innovative art form to create intriguing designs. - **Sustainable Art:** Developing art that repurposes sustainable and eco-friendly materials for a more conscious approach to product design. ### Where This Applies - **Furniture:** Incorporating prickly elements into furniture design to offer consumers more unique and interesting decor options. - **Art:** Experimenting with new and unconventional materials for art that pushes boundaries and stands out in the market. - **Sustainability:** Innovating sustainable practices in designing eco-friendly products that align with growing environmental concerns. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Volcanic Rock-Inspired Cabinet Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tuff-pencil-cabinet.md) - [Forest-Inspired Wooden Cabinets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hayashi-cabinet.md) - [Artful Spikey Furniture Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chet-lo.md) - [Knick-Knack Storage Desks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spiky-desk-concept.md) - [Cabinet-Concealed Modern Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/obelisk-3.md) - [Twisting CGI-Designed Sideboards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bookscrew-sideboard.md) - [Unique Burl-Inspired Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/don-heston-studio.md) - [Sandbox-Like Modular Storage Cabinets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modular-storage-cabinet1.md) - [Minimal Four-Legged Wooden Cabinets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/exposure-cabinet.md)
