# Levitating Stony Storage Magic Boxes Shelving Looks Heavy But it's Hollow and Misleadingly Light By Amelia Roblin | Published 2014-01-22 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/magic-boxes-shelving References: [mocoloco](http://mocoloco.com/fresh2/2014/01/21/magic-boxes-shelving-by-rui-pereira.php) & [rui-pereira](http://www.rui-pereira.com/) If you're going for an earthy aesthetic in your home, this Magic Boxes [shelving system](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cozey) would be a great addition. The set comes with pieces in three different sizes that look like long and smooth segments of rocks. You might be suspicious about how well such apparently heavy objects can be mounted against the wall, but a close look will reveal that they're actually made from [solid cork material](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/obelisk-3). Furthermore, each of these is hollow, providing you with a small chamber inside for the secret stashing of your smallest possessions. These still organic-looking elements for Blackcork conceal their matching textured caps so that they appear reasonably raw. Rui Pereira's Magic Boxes shelving makes practical and attractive accents to contemporary spaces, working very well visually when it's installed in clusters. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.7/10 - Popularity: 34% | Activity: 8% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Earth-inspired Home Decor:** Opportunity for creating innovative and sustainable home decor products inspired by natural elements. - **Clever Storage Solutions:** Opportunity to develop unique storage solutions that are aesthetically pleasing and provide hidden compartments for organization. - **Disruptive Use of Cork Material:** Opportunity for utilizing cork material in unconventional ways to create lightweight yet durable products. ### Who This Affects Most - **Home Furnishings:** Opportunity for home decor companies to expand their product offerings with earth-inspired elements and clever storage solutions. - **Interior Design:** Opportunity for interior designers to incorporate earthy and sustainable elements into their projects, while maximizing storage space. - **Material Innovation:** Opportunity for material science and product development companies to explore the potential of cork material in creating innovative and lightweight products. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Flexible Storage Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/brickbox-modular-shelving.md) - [Living Storage Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/treevive.md) - [Playful Storage Blocks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/berto-hidden-secrets.md) - [Sandbox-Like Modular Storage Cabinets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modular-storage-cabinet1.md) - [Curved Stacked Wooden Boxes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/box-set.md) - [Quirky Trinket Boxes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mystic-box.md) - [Floating Stacked Storage Boxes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kgt-wall-unit.md) - [Vertical Honeycomb Storage Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wall-art-storage-system.md) - [Abstract Jigsaw-Like Shelving](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spectator-shelf.md)
