Inventor Jason Poel Smith did, so he found a way to hack a standard 20-result prediction toy to give up to 60 customizable fortunes. As a part of his Indestructibles series, Smith created a video showing how one could make their own DIY digital magic 8 ball. He does this by replacing the [fortune telling](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/yesno-tarot-ai) die inside the toy with a [digital picture key chain](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cyber-cube). He created his own images or fortunes that would display instead of the original options. To try this project on your own at home, you'll require a large variety of tools. This digital hack is definitely one way to bring this [classic toy](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/funpop-tabletop-pinball-game) into the 21st century. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.0/10 - Popularity: 7% | Activity: 15% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [DIY](https://www.trendhunter.com/diy) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Customizable Fortune-telling:** Opportunity to create personalized and unique fortune-telling experiences, disrupting the traditional magic 8 ball concept. - **Digital Toy Hacking:** Innovation in hacking and modifying existing toys to add digital elements, creating new possibilities for interactive play. - **DIY Electronic Crafts:** Growing trend of people using their creativity and technical skills to create custom electronic devices and gadgets. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Toy Manufacturing:** Toy manufacturers can explore opportunities to incorporate digital elements into their products, enhancing the play experience. - **Electronics Retail:** Electronics retailers can offer DIY kits and resources for consumers interested in hacking and modifying existing toys and gadgets. - **Crafting and Hobby:** Crafting and hobby stores can provide tools, materials, and tutorials for DIY enthusiasts interested in creating custom electronic devices. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Squishy Fortune-Telling Toys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fortune-teller-squish-ball.md) - [Interactive Spellcasting Toys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/magic-mixies-magical-crystal-ball.md) - [Printed Fortune Clocks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/houracle.md) - [AI-Powered OUIJA Board](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aipowered-ouija-board.md) - [All-Digital Pinball Machines](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/toyshock-21c-digital.md) - [Interactive Gaming Cubes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rubiks-wowcube.md) - [Fortune-Telling Cereal Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/charmology.md) - [Dice-Shaped Gaming Consoles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/unidice.md) - [Game-Building Advent Calendars](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/electronic-games-advent-calendar.md)
