# Nosalgic Computer-Shaped Coolers The 'MaCool' Cooler is Shaped Like a Vintage Apple Computer By Laura McQuarrie | Published 2013-07-25 | Pop Culture Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/macool References: [swiss-miss](http://www.swiss-miss.com/2013/07/macool.html) & [kickstarter](http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1220520795/macool) The 'MaCool' is a [cooler](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/casket-cooler) designed to look like a [Mac](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/apple-mac-mini-concept) computer from 1984. The boxy design of the old desktop computer makes the perfect shape to hold 8 canned drinks an keep them chilled in the heat of summer. The nostalgic design mimics the monitor's shape and features a screen on its sides, complete with the smiling face of the old 8-bit happy face mac icon. The 'MaCool' brings back all the novelty of using a vintage Mac without the frustration of using an old computer. This project by Scott Stefan us currently collecting funds on [Kickstarter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/everfrost-powered-cooler) to go into mass production. As advertised, the 'MaCool' will definitely keep your "cold drinks cold and your hot geek cred hot." ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.5/10 - Popularity: 22% | Activity: 16% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 90% men, 10% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Pop Culture](https://www.trendhunter.com/popculture) > [Media](https://www.trendhunter.com/media) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Nostalgia-inspired Products:** Opportunities exist for creating products that pay homage to iconic technology designs of the past but with modern functionality. - **Functional Novelty Items:** There is potential for creating novelty items that also serve useful purposes, such as this cooler that resembles a vintage computer. - **Retro-gaming Merchandise:** With the growing market of retro-gaming enthusiasts, businesses could consider incorporating designs from classic games and consoles into their products. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Consumer Electronics:** Incorporating the designs of classic technology into modern devices could appeal to consumers who have a fondness for these iconic looks. - **Food and Beverage:** Creating unique and functional food and beverage accessories, like the MaCool cooler, can provide a point of differentiation in a competitive market. - **Gaming Merchandise:** For companies that market retro-gaming merchandise and accessories, incorporating classic designs and symbols from popular games and consoles can appeal to nostalgic gamers. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Speaker-Equipped Retro Coolers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kooltunes.md) - [Retro-Style Mini Gamer PCs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ayaneo-retro-mini-pc-am01-1.md) - [Retro Computer-Inspired Chargers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/retro-35-gan-charger.md) - [Retro-Styled Pocket Computers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/macintosh-pocket.md) - [Retro-Inspired PC Cases](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/retro95.md) - [Miniature Multifunctional Docking Stations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/raycue-128k.md) - [Coffin-Shaped Beverage Containers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-casket-cooler.md) - [Halloween Flick-Inspired Coolers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/drinks-cooler.md) - [Sneaker-Styled Computer Cases](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cooler-master-sneaker-x.md)
