The device is paired with a trackball for navigation that's inspired by the one found in the [Apple](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/macintosh-computer-concept) PowerBook and is equipped with a full QWERTY keyboard. The grayscale design of the device calls to mind the original [Nintendo Game Boy](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nintendo-game-boy-concept) and imagines what it might've looked like if Apple had been able to foray into mobile computing in the 1980s. The conceptual 'Macintosh Pocket' is paired with a series of physical connectivity ports on the rear for connecting it to old-fashioned technology peripherals like a CRT monitor. The device maintains the style of 80s technology products, but with a decidedly more compact design. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.8/10 - Popularity: 94% | Activity: 98% | Freshness: 12% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Mobile](https://www.trendhunter.com/mobile) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Retro-styled Pocket Computers:** Many consumers are looking for a nostalgic vintage-style that technology brands could leverage in newer designs. - **Compact Mobile Computing:** There is a growing consumer demand for pocket-sized and easy-to-use computing devices that can perform simple tasks such as word processing and internet connectivity. - **Old-school Peripherals:** The resurgence of older connectivity technologies such as CRT monitors present a new growth opportunity for technology companies. ### Who This Affects Most - **Technology:** There is an opportunity for technology companies to create retro-styled devices with modern functionality and smaller sizes than traditional computing devices. - **Gaming:** Gaming companies could tap into the nostalgia trend by creating retro-styled consoles designed to play vintage games with modern features. - **Design:** Designers could take advantage of the retro design trend to create new products that resemble the classic styles while utilizing modern features and materials. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Nostalgic Desktop Computer Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/macintosh-computer-concept.md) - [Tiny Retro Computing Laptops](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pocket-386.md) - [Retro-Style Mini Gamer PCs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ayaneo-retro-mini-pc-am01-1.md) - [Vibrant Retro Handheld Gaming](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pocket-classic.md) - [Compact Keyboard-Style Computers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mac-nano.md) - [Desktop-Powered Portable Computers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/portable-mac-mini.md) - [Miniature Multifunctional Docking Stations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/raycue-128k.md) - [Pocket Computing Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pokepad.md) - [Retro-Inspired Handheld Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pocket-dmg.md)
