# Magical Forest Encapsulated Domiciles The M-22 House Was Inspired by a Sense of Discovery By Sarah Dos Santos | Published 2014-01-08 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/m22-house References: [freshome](http://freshome.com/2013/12/26/sustainable-modern-residence-overlooking-lake-michigan-m-22-house/) & [mfarchitect](http://www.mfarchitect.com/) The M-22 House was designed by Michael Fitzhugh Architect and it was inspired by the sense of discovery of the [rivers and mountains](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/console-house) of West Grand Traverse Bay. The Bay is located in Northern Michigan in the United States and the home overlooks the incredible natural expanse around it. The home has high ceilings and [large windows](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tranquil-abiding), which illuminate it through the day, and moonlight offers a romantic and relaxing atmosphere in the evening. You can stay up late cuddling with your spouse as you let the surroundings captivate you. The large kitchen is great for family cook-offs and potluck dinners. Gorgeous [wooden furnishings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/oak-house-1) on the ceilings, door and window posts and the floors highlight the M-22 House. This creative strategy makes the house look rustic and natural, just like the views around it. The modernity of the house is undeniable with the ultra modern furniture, the amazing architecture and highlight pieces like a fireplace that hangs down from the ceiling. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.3/10 - Popularity: 71% | Activity: 21% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Sense of Discovery:** Exploring innovative ways to design spaces that evoke a sense of discovery, inspiring new possibilities for architectural design. - **Natural Expanse:** Creating homes that integrate with and showcase the surrounding natural environment, providing a harmonious and immersive living experience. - **Rustic Modernity:** Blending rustic elements with modern design aesthetics to create unique and visually striking architectural styles. ### Who This Affects Most - **Architecture:** Opportunities for architects to push the boundaries of traditional design by incorporating elements of discovery, nature, and rustic modernity. - **Interior Design:** Growing demand for interior designers to create cohesive spaces that seamlessly integrate with the natural surroundings, while maintaining a modern and rustic aesthetic. - **Sustainable Living:** Exploring sustainable building practices and materials to enhance the eco-friendliness of homes that connect with the natural expanse, showcasing the harmony between humans and the environment. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Mid-Century-Themed Vacation Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bohlin-cywinski-jackson.md) - [Modern Mountainous Luxury Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/robert-chisholm-architects.md) - [Thoughtful Lakeside Home Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lakeside-living.md) - [Tranquil Nature-Centric Cabin Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nortehaus.md) - [Meadow-Overlooking Sleek Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/studioac-1.md) - [Tranquil A‑Frame Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/steel-a-frame.md) - [Forest Lantern Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/iside-home.md) - [Blackened Timber Tranquil Cabins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-hideaway-house.md) - [Lakeside Family Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/muskoka-lakeside-cottage.md)
