# Circular Spotlight Lamps M Lamp by David Irwin is a Contemporary Take on an Antique Illuminator By Amelia Roblin | Published 2012-10-14 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/m-lamp-by-david-irwin References: [blog.leibal](http://blog.leibal.com/products/lighting/lamp/) & [juniper-design](http://juniper-design.com/m-lamp.html) It's marvelous how inspiration from old objects can be taken and twisted to produce such fresh and contemporary products. You would hardly guess that the M Lamp by David Irwin was based on the appearance of a 19th century miner's lamp. To modernize it's aesthetic, the designer reduced the components of the [LED table lamp](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/takeout-lamp) to more basic geometries with the stand taking the form of a cylinder and the head tracing a perfect circle. The latter is mounted onto the top of the former and the [cordless unit](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/poldina-classic-lamp) is enhanced with a thin arching handle. The collaborative Juniper concept was to create a [portable source of light](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/parcel-portable-lamp), like the original. The M Lamp by David Irwin can be carried about the house and provide eight hours of illumination after one charge. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.7/10 - Popularity: 28% | Activity: 14% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha, Millennial - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Circular Lighting Design:** Creating new and modern lighting designs using circular shapes and geometries. - **Antique-inspired Products:** Developing modern products that are inspired by antiques to create a unique and fresh interpretation. - **Cordless and Portable Lighting:** Designing cordless and portable lights for easy mobility and convenience. ### Who This Affects Most - **Home Decor:** Circular lighting designs can provide homes with modern lighting options. - **Industrial Design:** Antique-inspired products can be incorporated into industrial designs for a unique aesthetic. - **Outdoor Recreation:** Cordless and portable lighting can be used for outdoor activities like camping, hiking, and picnicking. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Lighthouse-Inspired Portable Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mouro.md) - [Melt-Resembling Portable Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/melt-light.md) - [Modernized Lantern Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ambientec-madco.md) - [Minimalist Tech Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/delite-20.md) - [Sleek Contemporary Metal-Encased Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/library-lamp.md) - [Minimalist Mysterious Lamp Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/auge-light-mini.md) - [Retro-Tinged Compact Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lari-mini.md) - [Wireless Lamp Renditions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tom-dixon-portable.md) - [Stackable Modular Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/module-table-lamp.md)
