It is essentially an incident light meter that can be attached to an [iPhone 4](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/iphone-4-concept)/4S or 5. For those who aren't avid shutterbugs, an incident light meter is used to measure light before it is reflected. The device is placed on the iPhone's front-facing camera and effectively measures how much light is hitting the person or thing you're photographing before it gets reflected off of them. Unlike other [iPhone photography accessories](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stage-powergrip), the Luxi incident light meter doesn't try to turn your smartphone into something it's not (a high-tech camera). Instead, Luxi turns your smartphone into a photography accessory, aiding you when you're shooting with a real camera. Luxi has already reached its funding goal on [Kickstarter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/miops-spark) and will retail for $24.95 when it's released in April. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.5/10 - Popularity: 21% | Activity: 16% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Mobile](https://www.trendhunter.com/mobile) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Incident Light Measurement:** The Luxi incident light meter demonstrates the trend of using smartphones to accurately measure light before it is reflected, improving photography outcomes. - **Smartphone Photography Accessories:** The Luxi incident light meter represents the trend of developing smartphone accessories that enhance the capabilities of traditional cameras. - **Crowdfunding Support for Photography Gadgets:** The successful Kickstarter campaign for the Luxi incident light meter highlights the trend of crowdfunding being used to support the development of innovative photography gadgets. ### Who This Affects Most - **Photography Equipment:** The Luxi incident light meter offers disruptive innovation opportunities to the photography equipment industry by providing a cost-effective solution for accurate light measurement. - **Smartphone Accessories:** The Luxi incident light meter presents disruptive innovation opportunities in the smartphone accessories industry by adding a specialized functionality to smartphones for photographers. - **Crowdfunding Platforms:** The Luxi incident light meter showcases the disruptive innovation opportunities in the crowdfunding industry by successfully raising funds for the development of photography gadgets. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [MagSafe Photographer-Style Grips](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lux-grip.md) - [Mobile Lighting Apps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/screen-fill-light.md) - [Photography-Ready Smartphone Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sandmarc-prolight-kit.md) - [Camera-Branded Photography Apps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/leica-lux-app.md) - [Tactile Photography Phone Attachments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/leica-lux.md) - [Photography MagSafe Smartphone Grips](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/leica-lux-grip.md) - [Ultra-Bright Smartphone Lighting Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/harlowe-sol-5.md) - [Pro-Grade Smartphone Photography Controls](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/miops-spark.md) - [Photographer-Inspired Photo Apps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-leica-lux-app.md)
