She has created a table, dubbed ‘Blanquita,’ out of 92 VHS tapes. What have you done with your old VHS tapes? Most tapes are either boxed up or stacked in a corner somewhere. Luisa Montealegre has created one of the cooler [coffee tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/blur-coffee-table) I have ever seen. VHS tapes are an untapped building material. They are relatively inexpensive and stack quite easily. I look forward to seeing more [VHS furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/objects-from-frames) from Luisa Montealegre and other designers. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.5/10 - Popularity: 76% | Activity: 82% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Upcycled Furniture:** Creating unique furniture pieces from unconventional materials, such as VHS tapes, presents an opportunity for disruptive innovation in the furniture industry. - **Sustainability in Design:** Transforming discarded items into functional pieces highlights the growing trend of sustainability in design, offering disruptive opportunities for eco-friendly product development. - **Nostalgia-inspired Decor:** Using VHS tapes to create furniture taps into the nostalgia of retro technology, catering to a consumer demand for vintage-inspired decor with a modern twist. ### Where This Applies - **Furniture:** The furniture industry can explore the use of unconventional materials like VHS tapes to create innovative and sustainable products. - **Upcycling and Repurposing:** The upcycling and repurposing industry can benefit from incorporating VHS tapes into their materials, expanding their repertoire and offering unique solutions. - **Interior Design:** Interior designers can leverage the trend of nostalgia-inspired decor by incorporating VHS tape furniture into their designs, providing clients with a unique and quirky aesthetic. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Retro VHS Tape-Resembling Vase](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vhs-tape.md) - [Styrofoam Furniture Capsules](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/trashy.md) - [Textile-Topped Table Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tumble-tables.md) - [Topographical Recycled Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/two-coffee-tables.md) - [Styrofoam Layered Stealthy Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vtna-table.md) - [Repurposed Sawdust Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sawdust-low-table.md) - [Spinning Storage Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/diy-spinning-coffee-table.md) - [Acrylic Multicolor Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lucid-side-tables.md) - [Herringbone-Inspired Wooden Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/herringbone-table.md)
