# Tanning Bed Coffins Luciano Podcaminsky Creates Thought-Provoking Artworks By Shiori Mine | Published 2012-07-28 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/luciano-podcaminsky References: [booooooom](http://www.booooooom.com/2012/07/26/coffin-shaped-tanning-bed-by-luciano-landia/) & [thankyou-verymuch](http://www.thankyou-verymuch.com/eng/lucianopodca.html) Born and based in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Luciano Podcaminsky studied media, film and copywriting prior to unveiling his series of thought-provoking sculptural works. Having worked at ad agencies and the film industry, Podcaminsky's work resonates references and idioms of popular culture. His [coffin-shaped tanning bed](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-alchemist-by-jdo) -- entitled 'Sundead' -- is a chilling reminder of the dangers that come with achieving a [bronzed complexion](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tan-fans-sleep-sac). The juxtaposition between the two strangely similar-shaped objects is eye-catching and sublime. If the tanorexic didn't convince you tanning isn't healthy, perhaps this artistic interpretation will do the trick. Luciano Podcaminsky's 'Private Dinner' installation consists of a dinner table separated by a glass wall and phone -- similar to prison visitor windows. The chilling visual can be interpreted in a number of ways, whether its to illustrate the lack of communication or how barriers are created in today's household families. Luciano Podcaminsky is an award-winning director with an ability to illustrate sublime stories through [immersive art installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/making-the-invisible-visible). ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.0/10 - Popularity: 23% | Activity: 60% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, South America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Thought-provoking Sculptural Works:** Exploring the potential of incorporating artistic elements into functional objects. - **Juxtaposition in Art:** Creating thought-provoking visuals by placing contrasting elements together. - **Immersion in Art Installations:** Using multimedia and interactive elements to immerse viewers in the artistic experience. ### Where This Applies - **Art and Design:** Artists and designers can find innovative ways to incorporate deeper meanings and concepts into functional objects. - **Advertising and Marketing:** Utilizing thought-provoking visuals and juxtaposition techniques in advertising campaigns to convey powerful messages. - **Experiential Entertainment:** Creating immersive and interactive art installations for entertainment events and exhibitions. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Design-Forward Funerary Urn Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/funerary-urn.md) - [Performance Art Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bio-pop.md) - [Humorous Macabre Office Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/coffin-office-chair.md) - [Fantasy Sculptural Furniture Pieces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chris-wolston.md) - [Modernist Artful Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/colendra.md) - [Colorful Tile Pool Loungers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cdm30-inflatable-pool-lounger.md) - [Customizable Tanning Pools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/inflatable-tanning-pool.md) - [Modern Design-Exploring Art Objects](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pratone-chair.md) - [Broken-Aesthetic Sculpture Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/brokenaesthetic-sculpture-collection.md)
