# Aluminum Louvre-Covered Cafes 'Louvrewall' is Both a Cafe and a Residence in South Korea By Joey Haar | Published 2016-09-29 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/louvrewall References: [dezeen](http://www.dezeen.com/2016/09/29/loverwall-and-architects-house-cafe-aluminium-louvres-facade-south-korea/) & [a-n-d.kr](http://www.a-n-d.kr/) Louvrewall, a cafe and residence in South Korea's Gyeonggi Province, takes its name from its unique and striking facade. The building, which was designed by South Korean architecture firm [Architecture of Novel Differation](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/architecture-building-culture) (or AND,) is covered in a mesmerizing set of aluminum louvers. The louvers, which were designed by AND using a program called the [Parametric Louver Design System](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/seoul-robot-ai-museum), provide many benefits. For one, they function like Venetian blinds, closing to keep rain from staining the building's [glazed glass exterior](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bomun-house) or block out the sun for residents. Further, on sunny days the open louvers cast expressionistic, stark shadows throughout the building's interior. Aside from its facade, Louvrewall is an interesting architectural unit in its own right. It's shaped with oblong curves that give the interior a fluid feel, guiding people through its rooms and hallways. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.1/10 - Popularity: 70% | Activity: 15% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/architecture) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Aluminum Louver Facades:** Architecture firms could create innovative buildings with aluminum louvers that function as both design elements and protect buildings from the elements. - **Parametric Design Tools for Architecture:** Developers and designers could benefit from using parametric design tools to create unique and functional building facades like Louvrewall's louver system. - **Fluid Design in Architecture:** Future architects could design more fluid and dynamic interior spaces that guide people through rooms by taking inspiration from Louvrewall's oblong curves. ### Who This Affects Most - **Architecture:** Architecture firms could develop innovative building facades with aluminum louvers like AND's Louvrewall for their commercial and residential clients. - **Construction:** Construction firms could specialize in implementing unique building facades using parametric design tools like the ones responsible for Louvrewall's louver system. - **Real Estate:** Real estate developers could use buildings like Louvrewall as inspiration for more fluid and functional interior spaces in both commercial and residential buildings. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Wooden Louvres Family Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-slab.md) - [Housing Block Defensive Facades](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bureau-des-mesarchitecture.md) - [Perforated Facade Urban Home](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/veil-house.md) - [Vertical Wooden Louvre Stations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/saintdenis-pleyel-station.md) - [Metal Sheet-Facade Book Stores](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shanghai-book-city.md) - [Rippled Facade Luxe Retailers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dior-store-2.md) - [Cascading Aluminum Pipe Museums](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/audeum-museum.md) - [Curved Brick Rooftop Structures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/parconido-bakery-cafe.md) - [Openable Wooden Shutter Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/light-house-1.md)
