# Yin-Yang Lounge Pads The Orca Lounge Furniture is Luxuriously Harmonious and Indulgent By Gil Cohen | Published 2013-05-29 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lounge-furniture References: [themag.it](http://www.themag.it/inspiration/2013/orca-lounge-furniture.html) & [sotamaa.net](http://www.sotamaa.net/Orca) Working in collaboration with Tuuli Sotamaa, Kivi Sotamaa of Sotamaa Finnish design studio created the [Orca](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cast-iron-cookware-set) lounge furniture design, a luxurious piece that takes its style from the whale it is named after. Two different surface textures come together to create a harmonious yin-yang effect, the black being the [plush and cushioning relaxation side](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rokko) while the white is the glossy and hard side. Not just a casual cushion, the dark expanse contorts and forms to the body, changing its shape based on the weight and position of the person relaxing on it. The harder surface is like a built-in coffee table upon which books, beverages and food can be placed for easy reach. Transform a room into a zen experience with the Orca lounge furniture design. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.7/10 - Popularity: 39% | Activity: 33% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/furniture) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Luxurious Lounge Furniture Designs:** The Orca Lounge Furniture showcases the trend of creating indulgent and harmonious lounge furniture designs. - **Yin-yang Surface Textures:** The yin-yang effect created by two different surface textures is a trend that adds a unique aesthetic to furniture designs. - **Adaptive and Contoured Cushioning:** The Orca Lounge Furniture displays the trend of using adaptive and contoured cushioning that adjusts its shape based on the user's weight and position. ### Where This Applies - **Furniture Design:** The Orca Lounge Furniture design presents disruptive innovation opportunities in the field of furniture design, particularly in creating luxurious and harmonious lounge furniture. - **Interior Design:** The yin-yang surface textures seen in the Orca Lounge Furniture design offer disruptive innovation opportunities in the realm of interior design, allowing for unique and aesthetically pleasing spaces. - **Hospitality Industry:** Adaptive and contoured cushioning, as exemplified by the Orca Lounge Furniture, has disruptive innovation potential in the hospitality industry, providing comfortable and customizable seating options for guests. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Leaf-Inspired Modern Lounge Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modern-lounge-chair1.md) - [Whale-Inspired PC Peripherals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/orca-mouse-concept.md) - [Soft Geometric-Themed Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/oru-collection.md) - [Cozy Contemporary Seating Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/knoll-perron-bun.md) - [Sea Creature-Inspired Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/seat-urchin.md) - [Soothing Boat-Like Lounge Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/canoa-chair.md) - [Comtemporary Lounge Collection](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/eclipse-series.md) - [Oceanic-Themed Playful Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/studio-cober.md) - [Wavy Lounge Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wavy-lounge-chair.md)
