# Automated Dating Sculptures The Lonely Sculpture Comments on Love and Loneliness in a Digital Age By Vasiliki Marapas | Published 2014-12-19 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lonely-sculpture References: [beautifuldecay](http://beautifuldecay.com/2014/12/19/tully-arnots-tinder-based-sculpture-hilariously-comments-online-dating/) & [tullyarnot](http://www.tullyarnot.com/) Tully Arnot's latest project, the 'Lonely Sculpture,' is imbued with the artist's signature sarcasm and wit. Acting as a social commentary on our relationship with technology, Arnot's sculpture is a tapping mechanical finger that, when placed over a smartphone, has the ability to interact with people on the Internet: specifically, it is able to accept or 'like' people on the dating app [Tinder](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-game-game). Tinder is an app that is, on some level, searching for [human connection](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dayone-irl-dating-app). It connects strangers to one another, on the off chance that a relationship will form. That being said, there's something incredibly isolating about Tinder. It reduces our identity to its most essential terms; basically, what can be gleaned by a few carefully chosen photos and a line of text, and relies on other people's judgment of those factors. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.1/10 - Popularity: 7% | Activity: 18% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Sarcasm and Wit:** Explore the use of sarcasm and wit as a form of artistic expression in social commentaries on technology and relationships. - **Human Connection:** Discover the growing demand for technology that facilitates human connection and relationships in a digital age. - **Identity Simplification:** Uncover opportunities to simplify identity representation in online platforms through curated visuals and concise descriptions. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Art:** Identify how the art industry can embrace technology to convey social commentaries and engage with a digital audience. - **Dating and Relationships:** Explore innovative approaches in the dating industry to enhance human connection and improve the online dating experience. - **Technology and Social Media:** Discover disruptive innovations in technology and social media platforms that foster meaningful interactions and alleviate loneliness. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Social Media Dating Profiles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/likelike.md) - [AI-Powered Dating Simulators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-game-game.md) - [Anti-Romantic Shrine Activations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/breakup-shrine.md) - [AI Dating Aid Bots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wittywingman.md) - [Playful Gen-Z Dating Campaigns](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/crush-feelings.md) - [AI-Powered Swiping Assistants](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wizard-of-swipe-for-tinder.md) - [AI-Enhanced Dating Apps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tinder-ai-photo-selection.md) - [Handmade Dating App Ads](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/get-paired-with-paird.md) - [AI Dating Assistants](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/intimal.md)
