# Boxed Bedroom Solutions The LOIOS Houses Capsular Chambers Within an Old Historic Structure By Amelia Roblin | Published 2014-09-30 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/loios References: [dezeen](http://www.dezeen.com/2014/09/30/odda-loios-apartments-porto-multifunctional-modules/) & [ooda.eu](http://www.ooda.eu) The LOIOS project demonstrates that filling a house with furniture is not the only way to make it comfortable and livable. Modular pods -- which I suppose could be considered as giant pieces of furniture -- are placed within the otherwise empty rooms of an old apartment building in Porto, Portugal. The firm OODA was actually thinking outside of the box when it came up with the clever concept of creating cozy capsules. The large containers integrate all of the necessary comforts and equipment to serve as complete bedrooms, bathrooms or kitchens. The prefabricated units are constructed with many layers of materials including Valcromat, steel, fiber glass, cement fiber board and wood. To give the charcoal-colored LOIOS monoliths additional character, the designer gave them patterned perforations on the outside, emitting starry light when the interiors are illuminated. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.8/10 - Popularity: 100% | Activity: 95% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Modular Living:** Exploring the use of modular pods as standalone living spaces within existing structures. - **Prefabricated Units:** Utilizing prefabricated units constructed with various materials to create functional living spaces. - **Charismatic Design:** Creating visually appealing living spaces through patterned perforations and innovative lighting design. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Interior Design:** Finding new ways to maximize living space within existing structures using modular pods. - **Construction:** Developing and manufacturing prefabricated units for quick and efficient building projects. - **Lighting Design:** Incorporating innovative lighting techniques to enhance the aesthetic appeal of living spaces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Prefabricated Miniature Home Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cpsula.md) - [Futuristic Capsule House Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/capsule-house.md) - [All-Glass Mesmerizing Compact Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/beaufort-bushland-retreat.md) - [Quirky Solo Office Pods](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/work-capsules.md) - [Prefab Timber Pods](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/forest-nests-treepod-project.md) - [Contemporary Modular Furniture Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/loopo-system.md) - [Minimal Cork Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/atelier-local-house.md) - [Wireframed-Based Furniture Capsules](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lines-series.md) - [Reimagined Minimal Parisian Apartments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/minimalist-cocoon.md)
