The Lobola Calculator is a mobile app that modernizes the age-old tradition of Lobola, popular in the southern tip of Africa, in which the family of a bridegroom pays the family of the bride in exchange for her hand in marriage.

Developed by a South African software developer named Robert Matsaneng, the Lobola calculator is claimed to put a fun spin on the practice of haggling a dowry price, which is often a combination of cash and cows. The app has generated lost of excitement in South Africa and nearby countries.

While some may find the practice of Lobola outdated, it is still rather widespread and it's interesting to see the steady adoption of a mobile app that aims to put a technological, connected spin on a centuries-old cultural practice.
