Rather then using a traditional square canvas, the pictures are [collages of various scenic landscapes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/baggage-claim-mirrors) arranged in a spherical format. Different images of mountains and bodies of water are placed side by side in such a manner as to represent the world. The artist takes [early twentieth-century photochroms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/farming-photographs) and puts them together based on subject matter and then places them together to create new lands that are an anthology of the past and present. As artist Liz Orton explains, she "takes as a starting point the idea that landscape is a representation, rather than a natural scene ‘out there’ in the world. Landscape is informed by histories of looking, and by cultural and visual narratives of nature." ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.2/10 - Popularity: 65% | Activity: 23% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Modern](https://www.trendhunter.com/modern) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Spherical Collage Art:** Opportunity to disrupt the traditional canvas format by creating spherical collages of various scenic landscapes. - **Anthology of Past and Present:** Opportunity to merge early twentieth-century photochroms with modern images to create new lands that represent the fusion of the past and present. - **Reimagining Landscape Representation:** Opportunity to challenge the traditional concept of landscape as a natural scene by exploring the understanding that landscape is a representation influenced by history, culture, and visual narratives. ### Where This Applies - **Fine Arts:** Opportunity for fine artists to explore new forms of canvas and mediums for presenting scenic landscapes, such as spherical collages. - **Photography:** Opportunity for photographers to experiment with merging historical and modern images to create unique visual narratives of nature. - **Art Education:** Opportunity for art educators to introduce alternative approaches to landscape representation, encouraging students to challenge traditional notions and explore the cultural and historical aspects of landscape art. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Hand-Painted Watercolor Prints](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/emma-webster.md) - [Painting-Immersive Photo Exhibits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/new-ground-exhibition.md) - [Digital City-Inspired Art Works](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/grand-central-station.md) - [Towering Reclaimed Wooden Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/louise-durham.md) - [Intersecting Dimensional Art Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/diorama.md) - [Vibrantly Colorful Dynamic Artwork](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kayla-rumpp.md) - [Glass Beaded Intricate Artworks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/painting-exhibition.md) - [AI-Generated Poetic Photo Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/emilio-alarcn.md) - [CD-Comprised Towering Art Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stratagems.md)
