# Swathed Stick Seating Lionel Doyen's Swing is an Eccentrically Structured Suspended Bench By Amelia Roblin | Published 2013-09-17 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lionel-doyens-swing References: [design-milk](http://design-milk.com/swing-by-lionel-doyen/) & [lioneldoyen](http://www.lioneldoyen.com/) Lionel Doyen's Swing is a truly original piece of furniture that finds itself tangled between the classifications of bench, chair, swaying seat and [abstract sculpture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rondin). It comprises two primary materials that are combined in an imaginative way, creating a finished product that is surprising, captivating and playful. The structure of the idiosyncratic [oscillating seat](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/birddy) has been formed by joining five long metal rods together with a pair of spacing frames. The bundled yellow sticks are warped for a more dynamic appearance that looks different from every angle. The [long beige straps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/entwined-objects) are integral to the visual and functional elements of Lionel Doyen's Swing. They bind the framework to offer a comfortable perch, they extend upwards to suspend the bench from the ceiling, and they contribute aesthetically to an overall whimsical design. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.3/10 - Popularity: 61% | Activity: 29% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha, Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Swinging Seats:** The trend towards unconventional seating designs that combine playfulness and comfort. - **Abstract Sculptural Furniture:** The trend of blending functional furniture with artistic aesthetics. - **Creative Use of Materials:** The trend of using unconventional materials to create unique and imaginative designs. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Furniture Design:** Opportunity for furniture designers to create innovative and visually striking seating options. - **Interior Design:** Opportunity for interior designers to incorporate unique seating designs as focal points in their projects. - **Art and Sculpture:** Opportunity for artists and sculptors to create functional pieces that blur the line between art and furniture. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Playground-Inspired Seating Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/swing-seat.md) - [Curvaceous Outdoor Swings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/niu-swing.md) - [Minimalist Outdoor Swings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/outdoor-swing.md) - [Dual Sculpture Seating Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/immaterial-0001.md) - [Cross Legged Chair Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sway-chair.md) - [Illusory Disconnected Component Armchairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fly-armchair.md) - [Sculptural Gravity Benches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/floating-bench.md) - [Bungee Cord Seating Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tcord-chair.md) - [Dynamic Movement Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wobbl-rocking-chair.md)
