The 51 year old Canadian social worker completely converted her basement in order to replicate the [Starship Enterprise](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/magellan-automatic-star-trek-warp-speed) room by room. Although understandably not a perfect match, it is astounding the amount of work and detail that went into its construction. Spending $30,000 to achieve the transformation, Line Rainville's renovation project began with the desire to turn the basement into a [home theater](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jean-verville). From there, Line Rainville was struck by genius and decided to model it after the iconic set. This is the ultimate tribute to the franchise, which is her [favorite television show](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/picard-tea-cup-set) from her childhood. Line Rainville reveals, "Standing there, being 51 years old, I was kind of beamed back into that 9-year-old girl's mind who so often wished her beloved Captain Kirk could bring her aboard his vessel." ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.9/10 - Popularity: 100% | Activity: 100% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Sci-fi Themed Home Renovations:** Companies can capitalize on consumers' love of nostalgia and sci-fi by offering services to fully transform a home into a sci-fi set. - **Fan Culture as a Form of Home Decor:** Home decor businesses can incorporate elements of popular fandoms into their designs to appeal to consumers' sense of nostalgia and connection to their favorite shows and movies. - **Home Entertainment Center Expansion:** As more people stay at home to watch movies and play games, businesses can offer custom home entertainment center services that meet consumers' specific needs and interests. ### Who This Affects Most - **Home Renovation:** Home renovation companies can offer specialty services to transform a room or entire home into a sci-fi themed space for the growing number of fans who seek a fully immersive experience. - **Geek Culture Merchandise:** Businesses selling sci-fi or other fandom merchandise can incorporate home decor items into their product lines to expand their offerings and appeal to fans who desire unique decor for their homes. - **Home Entertainment Technology:** As more people focus on home entertainment, businesses can expand their offerings with high-tech sound, lighting and custom furnishings to meet consumers' needs for creating an immersive home entertainment experience. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sci-Fi-Themed Virtual Experiences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/roddenberry-archive.md) - [Sci-Fi Media Playsets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/buildabridge-mini-bridge.md) - [Galactic Build Milestones](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/star-trek-uss.md) - [Replica Sci-Fi Toy Kits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/playmobil-star-trek-klingon-bird-of-prey.md) - [Sci-Fi Series-Inspired Rentable Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/byers-house.md) - [50s-Inspired Renovated Basements](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gundry-ducker1.md) - [Sci-Fi Large-Scale Block Sets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ucs-death-star.md) - [Spaceship-Like Entertainment Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/odyssey-entertainment-system.md) - [Sci-Fi-Inspired Storage Drives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/star-trek-discovery-flash-drives.md)
