# Newfangled Dangling Routers The Line Modem Can Be Elevated Above the Cable Clutter of Your Desk By Amelia Roblin | Published 2013-02-27 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/line-modem References: [shaneschneck](http://www.shaneschneck.com/) Ideally, [your desk](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modulo-1) is not a place where paper and electronics come to collect. Only regular tidying can truly prevent this scenario, but the Line Modem's design can certainly assist. You already have to have your computer, your mouse and your printer placed firmly on your work surface, but perhaps your Internet box need not be there as well. Shane Schneck reworked the case of the [UMTS router](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dlink-aquila-pro-ai-m95) so that it can be easily suspended. Soft coated plastic was formed into a slender rectangular prism, similar in dimensions to the typical modem; however, one corner has been beveled. This sloping edge has a slot along it so that its textile-covered cable can be fed through. This thickened component of the Line Modem can be easily looped for the effortless suspension of the device, removing it from a bed of [tangled cables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wirestax). ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.8/10 - Popularity: 17% | Activity: 29% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Suspended Routers:** The Line Modem's suspension design provides an opportunity for creating more vertically-inclined and space-saving computer setups in offices and homes. - **Desk Organization Tools:** The Line Modem represents a larger trend towards creative devices and designs that help users keep their computer and paper supplies organized. - **Textile-covered Cables:** The textile-covered cable of the Line Modem suggests a potential trend towards cords and cables that have a more aesthetically pleasing and functional design. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Computer Hardware:** Manufacturers of computer hardware could explore the potential of suspended routers and other devices that help users save desk space. - **Office Supplies:** Office supply companies could develop new and innovative tools for tidying and organizing desks, drawers, and shelves. - **Textile Manufacturing:** Textile manufacturers could invest in researching and producing fabrics that are suitable for use on cables, cords, and other types of electronic wiring. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Minimalist Circular Router Units](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/island-router.md) - [Wire-Eliminating Devices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mouse-bungee.md) - [Interchangeable Cover Networking Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vibrant-wifi-router.md) - [Modular Cable Organizer Sets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cords.md) - [Floating Monitor-Mounted Tech Docks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/line-linestand.md) - [Wall Art Mesh Routers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tcl-ultrathin-mesh-router.md) - [Fragrant Router Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/innrou.md) - [Sculptural Wifi Routers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/huawei-x3-pro-wifi.md) - [Vertical Desk Organizers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tower-desk1.md)
