# Infinitely Spinning Tops The LIMBO Top is Implicitly Inspired by 'Inception' By Joey Haar | Published 2018-06-22 | Life-Stages Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/limbo-top References: [digitaltrends](https://www.digitaltrends.com/cool-tech/spinning-top-kickstarter-limbo/?utm_source=feedly&utm_medium=webfeeds) & [kickstarter](https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/475566890/limbo-the-magical-top-that-spins-for-hours) After the [fidget spinner craze](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spinner-ring) of 2017, it's clear that [rotating toys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/diy-spinning-coffee-table) have a lot of potential to catch on, and the record-breaking LIMBO top is banking on that supposition. The sleek top has an embedded mechanical gyro that allows it to spin for as long as there's charge in the battery -- which can be four hours or more. Though the LIMBO top doesn't directly reference the popular 2014 film 'Inception', it has more than a passing similarity to the top used by the movie's main character as a point of somnolent reference. In the film, the top's unending spin signified that the character was in a dream, so the LIMBO top, which recently set the Guinness World Record for the longest [spinning mechanical top](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ferfereh), owes its inspiration to the film. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.8/10 - Popularity: 85% | Activity: 82% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Life-Stages](https://www.trendhunter.com/life-stages) > [Toys](https://www.trendhunter.com/toys) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Rotating Toys:** Opportunity to create innovative and long-lasting rotating toys inspired by popular films like 'Inception'. - **Embedded Mechanical Gyro:** Opportunity to develop products with embedded mechanical gyros for extended spinning capabilities. - **Longest Spinning Mechanical Top:** Opportunity to create new records and break existing ones in the realm of spinning tops. ### Where This Applies - **Toy Manufacturing:** Potential for toy manufacturers to capitalize on the popularity of spinning toys and create unique products. - **Battery Technology:** Opportunity for battery technology companies to develop longer-lasting batteries to enhance the spin time of rotating toys. - **Guinness World Records:** Opportunity for Guinness World Records to establish and recognize new records in the field of spinning tops. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Optical Illusion Fidget Toys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mezmocoin-infinity.md) - [Mesmerizing Gyroscopic Desk Toys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gyro-spin-spectre.md) - [Mechanical Kinetic Motion Toys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mezmoglobe.md) - [Stylish Four-in-One Fidget Toys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/infini-fidget-toy.md) - [Portable Metal Fidget Toys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mezmocoin-nano.md) - [Modular Spinning Gamer Accessories](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/neo-spin.md) - [Revolutionary Flying Disc](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spin-pro-award-winner.md) - [Space-Inspired Hovering Pens](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/levitating-pen-30.md) - [Gamified Silicone Toys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kulbutoo.md)
