# Leafy Folding Backrests The Limbo Chair Provides Both Privacy and Openness By Meghan Young | Published 2012-04-20 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/limbo-chair References: [design-milk](http://design-milk.com/limbo-chair-by-induflex) & [induflex.pt](http://www.induflex.pt/) The [Limbo Chair](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/duho-pavilion) takes on the shape of a leaf. Its organic design is completely refreshing -- and not just because of its nature-inspired roots. Like a typical pod chair, it boasts a high backrest that provides the sitter with some privacy if desired; unlike a typical pod chair, this 'back screen' can be folded down much like the collar of a shirt for a more open aesthetic. Whether up or down, the Limbo Chair is comfortable to sit in and chic to look at. Designed by Portuguese furniture design company Induflex, the Limbo Chair will be presented at [Salone 2012](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nook-sofa) in Milan. Available in two shades of green, the Limbo Chair has an overall minimalist vibe in spite of its leafy design. The white base simplifies the look. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.8/10 - Popularity: 72% | Activity: 64% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Organic Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop furniture designs that mimic natural elements for a refreshing aesthetic. - **Flexible Backrests:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Create chairs with foldable backrests for customizable levels of privacy and openness. - **Minimalist Furniture:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Design furniture with sleek and simplistic features to appeal to modern and minimalist preferences. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Furniture Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Incorporate innovative elements and materials into furniture designs to enhance functionality and aesthetics. - **Interior Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Explore ways to integrate innovative furniture designs into interior spaces to create unique and stylish environments. - **Home Decor:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop home decor accessories that complement and enhance the design of innovative furniture pieces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Naturalistic Grass-Inspired Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-flip-chair.md) - [Living Plant DIY Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/green-hideaway.md) - [Wellbeing-Harnessing Fan-Like Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shanti-chair.md) - [Leaf-Inspired Modern Lounge Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modern-lounge-chair1.md) - [Rope-Like Dynamic Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/caterpillar-lounge.md) - [Comforting Designer Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/calma-lounge-by-layer.md) - [Vibrant Chaise Lounge Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/versarest.md) - [Cushioned Relaxing Lounge Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/calma-lounge.md) - [Illusory Disconnected Component Armchairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fly-armchair.md)
