[Ford's](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shelby-mustang-mache-gt-concept) new Lightweight Concept car is based on a Ford Fusion sedan but weighs far, far less thanks to the use of super-lightweight construction materials. Ford applied weight-saving techniques and construction methods borrowed from its famously lightweight [F-150](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/2024-ford-f150) truck.

The Lightweight Concept vehicle makes liberal use of aluminum along with carbon fiber and magnesium, which are thoughtfully scattered throughout the vehicle's construction. Indeed advanced materials are found throughout the vehicle, right from the powertrain, chassis, body and battery through to interior elements such as the seats.

The vehicle is equipped with Ford's 1.0-liter [EcoBoost](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/troy-lee-designs) engine, and moves on lightweight wheels sheathed in skinny tires. As a result of these weight-saving techniques, the car weighs under 25% less than a regular Ford Fusion.
