They're are perfect for adding a little psychedelic charm to your home decor. The standard lava lamp is a staple for college frat houses and the peace-lovers basement, but not the savvy [sci-fi lover](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spacetime-transformation-lamp) can get in on the action with a little funky retro styling. The entire unit is designed to look like Luke Skywalker's infamous lightsaber from the [Star Wars films](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/brickbuilt-star-wars-logo), complete with intricate detailing of buttons and even the color of the wax (blue, which is the same as Luke's lightsaber). The on/off switch is discretely incorporated into the control panel of the intergalactic sword while the shape is kept much more minimalist with a cylindrical shape from top to bottom. The lightsaber lava lamp might not protect you against the evil Empire, but it sure will start conversations when friends spot the quirky design. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.1/10 - Popularity: 22% | Activity: 34% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 90% men, 10% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Sci-fi Home Decor:** Create a line of home decor inspired by sci-fi movies, shows, and books for fans who want to incorporate their interests into their living spaces. - **Novelty Lava Lamps:** Design a line of lava lamps that are unique and visually appealing to appeal to younger demographics and those interested in retro home decor. - **Functional Novelty Items:** Create more unique and quirky products that serve a practical function, such as this lightsaber lava lamp, to appeal to a wider audience with varying interests. ### Where This Applies - **Home Decor:** Incorporate more pop culture references into home decor products to appeal to fans who want to showcase their interests in their living spaces. - **Novelty Gifts:** Design and produce more novelty gift items that are visually appealing and serve a practical function to appeal to a wider audience. - **Sci-fi Merchandise:** Produce more unique and visually appealing products inspired by popular sci-fi movies, shows, and books to appeal to fans and collectors alike. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Retro App-Controlled Lava Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/appcontrolled-lava-lamp.md) - [Futuristic LED Lava Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moonside-lamp-one.md) - [Modernized Retro Lamp Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/astro-lava-lamp-collection.md) - [Ethereal Space-Inspired Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wormhole-table-lamp.md) - [Design-Forward Lava Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/astro-lava-lamp.md) - [Laser Sword Hard Drives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/seagate-lightsaber-collection-firecuda-ssd.md) - [Sci-Fi-Themed Hard Drives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/firecuda-external-hard-drives.md) - [Eclipse-Inspired Whimsical Pendant Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/space-traveler.md) - [LED-Powered Laser Swords](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/black-series-obiwan-kenobi-force-fx-elite-lightsaber.md)
