# Wireless Lightbulb Remotes The Philips Hue Bulb Can Be Dimmed with a Remote By Christopher Magsambol | Published 2015-08-26 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lightbulb-remotes References: [gizmodo](http://gizmodo.com/you-can-now-dim-philips-hue-bulbs-from-a-wireless-remot-1725399801?utm_campaign=socialflow_gizmodo_twitter&utm_source=gizmodo_twitter&utm_medium=socialflow) & [www2.meethue](http://www2.meethue.com/) [Philips](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/portable-table-lamp)' revolutionary Hue bulbs can now be easily controlled with wireless lightbulb remotes. Previously, the Hue bulbs were controlled through an app. Although seemingly convenient, apps are dependent on smartphones, battery life and a Wi-Fi connection, all of which can stop working at any given moment. Recognizing this, Philips created a [wireless remote](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/linxura-smart-home-controller) that can also be attached to the wall and act as a traditional light switch. This time, the remote can dim or brighten the Hue bulbs. The remote is battery-operated but does not need to be replaced until after three years. The remote is also attached to the wall magnetically, making it access to the device quick and easy. The dimmer controller can be programmed through the [Phillips](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/secure-camera) app, and can reconfigure specific bulbs in the home, in various rooms. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.0/10 - Popularity: 66% | Activity: 75% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Home](https://www.trendhunter.com/home) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Wireless Lightbulb Control:** The development of wireless lightbulb remotes presents disruptive innovation opportunities in home automation and smart lighting industries. - **Alternative to Smartphone Apps:** The shift towards remote-controlled lightbulbs offers disruptive innovation opportunities in the smartphone technology and app development industries. - **Improved Light Switch Functionality:** The integration of wireless lightbulb remotes with traditional light switches opens up disruptive innovation opportunities in the electrical and home automation industries. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Home Automation:** The wireless lightbulb remote trend presents disruptive innovation opportunities in the home automation industry, enabling convenient and customizable control of lighting systems. - **Smart Lighting:** The development of wireless lightbulb remotes offers disruptive innovation opportunities in the smart lighting industry, enhancing user experience and control options. - **Smartphone Technology:** The shift towards remote-controlled lightbulbs creates disruptive innovation opportunities in the smartphone technology industry, providing alternative control options for smart devices. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Chic Battery-Powered Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/portable-table-lamp.md) - [Connected Weatherproof Wall Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/philips-hue-dymera.md) - [Organically Shaped Smart Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flourish-table-lamp.md) - [Subtle Smart Ceiling Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/datura-ceiling-light.md) - [Motion Sensor Automation Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/philips-hue-1.md) - [Ambient Illumination Smart Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/philips-hue-play-wall-washer.md) - [Versatile Smart Home Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/philips-hue-secure.md) - [Hanging Connected Light Fixtures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smart-pendant-light.md) - [Smart Light Dimmers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wemo-smart-dimmer.md)
