# Illuminating Light-Up Shelves The 'La Discrete' Lamp Shelf by Fabien Dumas is Sleek and Functional By M | Published 2013-05-27 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/light-up-shelves References: [designboom](http://www.designboom.com/design/la-discrete-shelf-lamp-by-fabien-dumas-for-marset/) & [marset](http://www.marset.com/) Fabien Dumas' 'La Discrete' light-up shelves are handy combinations of two desk essentials: shelving space and lamps. An aesthetically simple and natural design, the 'La Discrete' shelf saves space while also providing light -- perfect for any office. In a world where everyone owns millions of things, it's nice to have pieces of furniture that double up not only on functionality, but also style. The 'La Discrete' light-up shelves are a [hollow wooden box-inspired shelf](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/desk-shelf-pro) that contains a [rectangular pull chain lamp](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arc-lamp). Made entirely from a soft grainy wood, you can load up this shelf with books or knick-knacks and it's available in either green or white. The neat thing about 'La Discrete' is it can either be used as a desk shelf or be mounted on a wall. Which ever way, the lamp feature still works and the shelvf remains aesthetically pleasing.
