# Four Dimensional Optical Illustrations Patrick Rochon Creates a Stunning Light Painting Sculpture By Leslie Chen | Published 2011-07-16 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/light-painting-sculpture References: [patrickrochon](http://www.patrickrochon.com/archives/965) & [vimeo](http://vimeo.com/26006101) Artist Patrick Rochon has created this Light Painting Sculpture using manipulation of light by hand. Although the images look like they've been photoshopped or changed in some way, they are actually authentic representations of what was captured first hand in the studio. Accompanied by a video, the Light Painting Sculpture is a "meditative experience that tickles the imagination," says the artist. Rochon considers this type of art four dimensional because of the interaction between light and space. The Light Painting Sculpture definitely looks like it has a life of its own as it moves across the screen like a mystical creature stuck in a haze. **Implications** - Consumers in contemporary society look towards their purchases for a sense of relief. Designs featuring a fantastical element are appealing to those with stressful lifestyles. Creating more items with this aspect could help a company attract more buyers. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.9/10 - Popularity: 61% | Activity: 48% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Modern](https://www.trendhunter.com/modern) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Fantastical Design:** Opportunity to create designs with a fantastical element that provides a sense of relief to consumers. - **Manipulation of Light:** Opportunity to explore the manipulation of light as a form of artistic expression. - **Four Dimensional Art:** Opportunity to create art that combines light and space for a unique visual experience. ### Who This Affects Most - **Art and Design:** Opportunity for artists and designers to integrate fantastical elements into their creations. - **Photography:** Opportunity for photographers to experiment with light manipulation techniques. - **Entertainment:** Opportunity for the entertainment industry to incorporate four dimensional art experiences into their shows and events. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Emotional Light Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/miror-collection.md) - [Physics-Informed Digital Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/motion-sculpture.md) - [Stunningly Intricate Light Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shapes-of-light.md) - [Festive Light Painting Techniques](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/light-painting-1.md) - [Illuminated Curtained Light Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/making-the-invisible-visible.md) - [Life-Like 3D Canvases](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lumino.md) - [Math-Driven Lighting Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/alba-light.md) - [Fluid Function Art Exhibits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/optical-flow.md) - [Paper Curvature Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/paper-curves.md)
