The Light Carpet by Johanna Hyrkas was created by wrapping [LED rope lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spline) in a simple knitting pattern. The pattern, which wraps around and around, eventually became a rug. The Light Carpet is a new take on [interior lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ilo-lamp). Hyrkas designed the Light Carpet as part of Imu Design, Finland’s “self-appointed [National Design Team](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gat-umbrella).” Not only is their work impressive, they’ve even got the *cojones* to name themselves the *National* Design Team. Go them. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.6/10 - Popularity: 20% | Activity: 81% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **LED Rope Light Rugs:** The use of LED rope lights in creating rugs presents an opportunity to disrupt the traditional rug industry. - **DIY Lighting:** The rise of DIY lighting opens up opportunities for disruptive innovation in the home decor industry. - **Functional Lighting:** The trend towards functional lighting such as the Light Carpet presents opportunities for innovation and disruption in the lighting industry. ### Where This Applies - **Home Decor:** The use of LED rope lights and DIY lighting presents opportunities for disruptive innovation in the home decor industry. - **Lighting:** Functional lighting trends such as the Light Carpet present opportunities for innovation and disruption in the lighting industry. - **Textile:** The creation of rugs using LED rope lights presents an opportunity to disrupt the traditional textile industry. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Creative Lighting Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/drape-light.md) - [Mesmerizing Artful Patterned Rugs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/electtrico-collection.md) - [Soft Comfort Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/soft-lamp.md) - [Self-Expressive Custom Rope Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/neon-rope-light.md) - [Dynamic Flatwoven Carpet Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/matter-colection.md) - [Dynamic Geometric Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-drape-light.md) - [Knitted Lighting Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/knit-series.md) - [DIY LED Flower Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/floled.md) - [Mood-Setting Adventurous Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/guidelight.md)
