# Solar Fan-Like Lighting The Light Bird by Jang Eun Hyuk Opens and Closes Like a Fluttering Wing By Meghan Young | Published 2012-09-18 | Eco Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/light-bird References: [yankodesign](http://www.yankodesign.com/2012/09/17/solar-butterfly/) & [coroflot](http://www.coroflot.com/ssavie/) Aside from the classic solar lights that are used in gardens and along walkways, these illuminators can be quite ugly; the Light Bird wants to change that. As its name suggests, it is inspired by the [wing of a bird](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tiki-lamp). Opening up almost like a butterfly knife, the Light Bird displays its eco-friendly 'feathers,' which happen to be long, thin panels that soak up the sun's rays to power the light. Designed by South Korean industrial designer Jang Eun Hyuk, the Light Bird was created for her graduation project. Mounted on walls, the Light Bird provides a soft glow outdoors for those moments when all a person wants is some light. Opened during the day and folded at night, the Light Bird is controlled by a rubber button in the center of the light. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.3/10 - Popularity: 82% | Activity: 68% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Solar Lighting:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop advanced solar lighting designs that combine functionality with aesthetic appeal. - **Inspired Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Explore nature-inspired designs (e.g., bird wings) to create unique and visually appealing products. - **Eco-friendly Technology:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop sustainable technology solutions that harness renewable energy sources like solar power. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Outdoor Lighting:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Transform the outdoor lighting industry by introducing visually pleasing solar-powered options. - **Industrial Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Incorporate nature-inspired design principles to revolutionize product aesthetics and functionality. - **Renewable Energy:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Leverage eco-friendly technologies to drive advancements in the renewable energy industry. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Kinetic Insect Sculpture Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dragonfly-balance-light.md) - [Sunlight-Mimicking Panelled Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sunne-lamp.md) - [Bird-Inspired Speaker Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/birdinspired-speaker.md) - [Wireless Solar-Powered Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/solarpowered-lights.md) - [Sustainable Solar Portable Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/iggy-lamp.md) - [Solar-Powered Floral Garden Accessories](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/solar-tree-house.md) - [Blooming Lighting Fixtures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pavo.md) - [Sun-Lit Kite-Inspired Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cygnet-light.md) - [Outdoor-Ready Smart Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/decktok-foldlight-v1.md)
