The contraption is basically a box that you place in the windowsill or hang from a window. It utilizes [optical fibers to transfer light](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/luminescent-bricks) to specially designed light fixtures. The Light Bandit does not 'store' sunlight but rather redirects it, so it cannot be used at night. The Light Bandit is currently the subject of a [Kickstarter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/biancinoti) campaign. A pledge of $299 will get you a complete kit including the Light Bandit, 6 meters of fiber and a lamp. Deliveries will be made in November 2015 assuming the product comes to fruition. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.5/10 - Popularity: 13% | Activity: 25% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Gadgets](https://www.trendhunter.com/gadgets) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Natural Light Capture:** The innovative use of optical fibers to capture and redirect sunlight opens up opportunities for developing new devices and products that bring natural light into interior spaces. - **Sustainable Lighting Solutions:** The Light Bandit's ability to harness sunlight could inspire the development of more sustainable lighting solutions for homes and businesses, reducing reliance on traditional energy sources. - **Smart Sunlight Integration:** As technology advances, there is potential to integrate smart features into sunlight-capturing devices like the Light Bandit, allowing for automated adjustments based on time of day and user preferences. ### Who This Affects Most - **Green Building:** The Light Bandit and similar sunlight-capturing gadgets could disrupt the green building industry, offering architects and builders new options for incorporating natural light into designs. - **Home Decor:** The Light Bandit's ability to bring natural light into interior spaces presents an opportunity for home decor companies to create new lighting products that enhance the ambiance of a room. - **Renewable Energy:** Innovations in sunlight-capturing technologies, like the Light Bandit, align with the renewable energy industry's goal of finding sustainable alternatives to traditional energy sources. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Window-Imitating Smart Light Panels](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vindow.md) - [Sunlight-Imitating Indoor Devices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sunbooster.md) - [Sun-Mimicking Computer Peripherals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sunled-sunbooster.md) - [Window-Emulating Lighting Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/window-chronicles.md) - [Sunlight Simulating Shades](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aura-illuminated-shades.md) - [Indoor Plant Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/indoor-plants1.md) - [Daylight-Mimicking Floor Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/brighter-floor-lamp.md) - [Sunlight Spectrum Desk Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ocean-sun-plant-light.md) - [Biology-First Lighting Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/skyview.md)
