What originally looks like a series of line drawings is actually a collection of cutout images, all painstakingly sliced and snipped by hand to create delicate, lace-like pieces. These portraits are hung up on [panes of glass](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/painting-exhibition) so that the light can shine through them, casting a copy of each of the images onto the floor in the form of shadows, enhancing the astounding attention to detail and precision of the artist. Risa Fukui patiently works with a sharp blade to cut out all the textures and shadows in people's faces to create her absolutely amazing collection of life-size portraits. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.4/10 - Popularity: 61% | Activity: 64% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Modern](https://www.trendhunter.com/modern) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Paper Cutting Art:** Opportunity for artists to explore new ways of using paper as a medium for creating art. - **Shadow Art:** Using light and shadow to create an illusion of depth brings a new twist to traditional artistic techniques. - **Precision Art:** The use of precise and accurate techniques challenges artists to create detailed art that captivates its audience. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Fine Arts and Crafts:** The traditional art industry gets an innovative twist with new techniques and mediums like paper cutting and shadow art. - **Home Decor:** Cut-out shadow portraits provide a unique way to add personality and flair to a home or office space with its intricate details and fascinating play of shadows. - **Laser Cutting Industry:** The growing demand for precision cutting in the art industry opens up opportunities for the laser cutting industry to create machines that could quickly and accurately create similar artworks. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sculptural Paper Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fragmenti.md) - [Origami-Inspired Porcelain Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/saori-matsushita.md) - [Paper-Made Mosaic Artwork](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/real-life-architecture-exhibition.md) - [Seasonal Interactive Fashion Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/washi-paper.md) - [Paper Curvature Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/paper-curves.md) - [Intricate Site-Specific Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/folded-time.md) - [Folded Paper Figures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/clara-von-zweibergk.md) - [Kumiko Craft Structures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/timevase.md) - [Laser-Cut Urban Artistry](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/laser-cut-city-maps.md)
