The drama is the first feature by award-winning writer and director Martin Rodríguez Redondo. The plot of MARILYN is rooted in a crisis of family, of self and of body. The plot follows Marcos who lives on a ranch with his parents and his brother and who is always looking forward to the annual Carnival. Things become ever-more complicated as the protagonist's dad suddenly dies, Marcos is pressured to take over the ranch and as he comes into a non-consensual and forceful sexual encounter during the Carnival. The LGBTQ film is based on a heart-wrenching real-life story. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 0.5/10 - Popularity: 2% | Activity: 4% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: South America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Live Arts](https://www.trendhunter.com/livearts) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Authentic LGBT Films:** The trend of creating movies based on the real-life stories of LGBTQ individuals to bring more authenticity and empathy to world cinema. - **LGBTQ Cinema as a Medium for Social Change:** The trend of using movies to bring social change to the forefront, democratize queer narratives and queer culture while creating opportunities for queer filmmakers and actors. - **Breaking Barriers with Queer Narratives:** The trend of using movies to challenge traditional stereotypes and boundaries of portraying queerness as villainous or exotic, instead showcasing them in a more mainstream and normalized context. ### Where This Applies - **Film and Entertainment Industry:** Opportunity to invest and support more queer films to promote visibility and understanding of LGBTQ individuals. - **Digital Content Streaming Platforms:** Opportunity to focus on diversified representation along with mass appeal in their content curation and acquisition strategies, to cater to all audiences and avoid stagnation. - **Diversity and Inclusion Consultantcy:** Opportunity to work and consult with the film industry on supporting queer narratives behind the camera, offering their expertise in the conception, production and distribution of these stories. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Queer Storytelling Sculptural Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/something-sticky-series.md) - [Queer-Inspired Cannabis Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/queer-all-year.md) - [Inclusive Healthcare Campaigns](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/get-real.md) - [Queer Art Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/queer-stories.md) - [LGBTQI+-Friendly Travel Destinations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lgbtqifriendly-travel.md) - [Fitness Club Pride Collaborations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/benefit-auction.md) - [Journalist-Focused Short Films](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-shooting.md) - [80s-Based Horror Trilogies](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/maxxxine.md) - [Kpop-Star Cinematic Short Films](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dream-short-film.md)
