The material has been engineered to be as flexible as plastic but hard as glass to make it well-suited for use as a screen covering. The material is said to be durable enough to be folded and unfolded as many as 200,000-times, depending on the application. IT Materials Division Leader, Vice President Chang Do Ki spoke on the LG Chem Real Folding Window saying, “LG Chem developed new technologies that can be used for [foldable displays](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/samsung-galaxy-trifold) using new materials technologies and its accumulated coating technologies as it enters the next-generation materials market in earnest. Regarding this, LG Chem announced that it had developed the cover window for foldable IT devices called ‘Real Folding Window’ that applied specially developed coating materials to make the surface as hard as glass, while the folding parts as flexible as plastic. Unlike existing polyimide films and tempered glass-type materials, the cover window that applied LG Chem’s new coating technologies will maximize flexibility, while also providing optimized solutions for [foldable phones](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lightweight-foldable-smartphone) such as making improvements to chronic issues like fold impressions on the connecting part of the screen.” ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.9/10 - Popularity: 67% | Activity: 69% | Freshness: 10% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Mobile](https://www.trendhunter.com/mobile) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Flexible Screen Technology:** The LG Chem Real Folding Window opens up opportunities for flexible screen technology in various industries. - **Durable Foldable Materials:** The development of durable foldable materials like the LG Chem Real Folding Window can bring innovation to the consumer electronics industry. - **Next-generation Materials:** LG Chem's development of next-generation materials like the Real Folding Window can lead to disruptive innovations in various industries. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Consumer Electronics:** The LG Chem Real Folding Window can lead to disruptive innovation opportunities in the consumer electronics industry such as foldable smartphones and tablets. - **Automotive:** Flexible and durable screen technology can be applied to automotive interiors for futuristic displays and controls. - **Aerospace:** The LG Chem Real Folding Window can be used for foldable displays and screens in airplanes and spacecraft where durability and flexibility are essential. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Ultra-Thin Stretchable Displays](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lg.md) - [Organic Flexible Displays](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flexible-olcd.md) - [Malleable Stretching Displays](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stretchable-display.md) - [Flexible Display Technologies](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dupont-flexible-displays.md) - [Script-Like Foldable Display Screens](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rollable-flex.md) - [Eco-Friendly Glass Materials](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lionglass.md) - [Next-Gen Technology Glasses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/corning-gorilla-glass-victus-2.md) - [Stretchable OLED Panels](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/uchicago-stretchable-display.md) - [Malleable Furniture-Like TVs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flexible-oled-display.md)
