# Gravity-Defying Toys This Ultrasonic Levitation Machine Can Levitate Objects in Air By Rahul Kalvapalle | Published 2014-08-14 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/levitation-machine References: [gizmodo](http://gizmodo.com/this-120-anti-gravity-machine-beats-all-desk-toys-to-d-1620187244) & [kickstarter](https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/richardhaberkern/ultrasonic-levitation-machine-learn-the-science-of/) American inventor and innovator Richard Haberkern has invented an incredible ultrasonic levitation machine that harnesses the power of sound waves to levitate small objects. The device essentially helps you create an anti-gravity field. The levitation effect is achieved by aiming an [ultrasonic sound beam](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ultrasonic-cutter) at a reflector. By adjusting the contraption accordingly, a standing wave can be created that can cause objects to float within its range. Usually, you'd expect an ultrasonic device this powerful to produce ear-shattering pressure waves. However, the [Sonic](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sonic-lamb) Levitation Machine's pressure waves only travel a very short distance, meaning your ears are safe from the waves. Haberkern has taken to [Kickstarter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vinylsonic) to raise funds for production and distribution of the Sonic Levitation Machine. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.0/10 - Popularity: 31% | Activity: 80% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Science](https://www.trendhunter.com/science) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Ultrasonic Levitation:** Innovations in ultrasonic levitation technology opens opportunities for the development of novel applications such as in manufacturing and medical industries. - **Anti-gravity Devices:** New disruptive technologies for anti-gravity devices could lead to significant breakthroughs, especially in the aerospace, military, and transportation industries. - **Acoustic Levitation:** Acoustic levitation is an emerging field with potential applications in various industries such as pharmaceuticals, chemical production, and food manufacturing, as it could lead to contamination-free processing. ### Who This Affects Most - **Manufacturing:** The use of ultrasonic levitation in the production process can help increase precision and quality control, leading to more efficient and cost-effective manufacturing. - **Aerospace:** Anti-gravity technology has the opportunity to revolutionize the aerospace industry, especially in the development of new forms of propulsion and spacecraft design. - **Pharmaceuticals:** Acoustic levitation technology could help in the development of new drug delivery systems and could also improve the production process of drugs, especially those that are sensitive to contamination and require a sterile environment. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Optical Illusion Air Purifiers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/winben-levitating-air-purifier.md) - [Mechanical Kinetic Motion Toys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mezmoglobe.md) - [Optical Illusion Humidifiers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/serena-antigravity-humidifier.md) - [Mesmerizing Gyroscopic Desk Toys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gyro-spin-spectre.md) - [Floating Decorative Desk Setups](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/levitating-cybertruck.md) - [Illusory Floating Turntables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/audiotechnica-hotaru.md) - [Galactic-Themed Pen Holders](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ufo-desk-pen.md) - [Floating Futuristic Writing Utensils](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/levitating-pen.md) - [Floating Spherical Speakers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/alex-casabo.md)
