# Realistic Paper Pistols Leo Firebrand Crafts a Malcolm Reynolds Gun Replica By Meghan Young | Published 2011-08-25 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/leo-firebrand References: [neatorama](http://www.neatorama.com/2011/08/23/papercraft-pistol/) & [geeksaresexy.net](http://www.geeksaresexy.net/2011/08/23/captain-mals-papercraft-pistol-gallery/) It seems almost impossible that Leo Firebrand's pistol creation is actually made out of paper. It looks so realistic that no one would be ridiculed if they ducked for cover if Leo Firebrand himself decided to brandish it in public. Of course, he would probably be apprehended by police for causing a disturbance to peace. That said, Leo Firebrand's [paper pistol](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/metallic-piggy-bank) is a replica of Malcolm Reynolds' gun. Clearly, the founder of Firebrand Creations is a big fan of the [sci-fi TV show](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lightsaber-lego) 'Firefly' and the movie 'Serenity.' To make this gun, Leo Firebrand had to stretch dampened paper over [carved floral foam](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fragmenti) to get the shape. From there, he painted it to give it a really realistic look. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.2/10 - Popularity: 30% | Activity: 59% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 90% men, 10% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Realistic Paper Weapons:** Creating detailed replicas of weapons using paper opens up opportunities for cost-effective and customizable prop designs. - **Fan-made Replicas:** The production of fan-made replicas of iconic objects from pop culture allows enthusiasts to showcase their passion and creativity. - **Craftsmanship Innovation:** Exploring unconventional materials and techniques in craftsmanship can lead to the development of unique and unexpected creations. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Film and TV Props:** The film and TV industry can benefit from the use of realistic replicas in production, reducing costs without compromising on visual impact. - **Collectibles and Memorabilia:** Enthusiast groups and collectors can find value in purchasing and displaying authentic-looking replicas of beloved objects and memorabilia. - **Art and Sculpture:** Paper replicas present a medium for artists and sculptors to experiment with new forms and techniques, merging traditional craftsmanship with modern materials. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sci-Fi Foam Dart Blasters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ee3-blaster.md) - [3D-Printed Paper Knives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/paper-knives.md) - [Gel Pellet Toy Guns](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hasbro-1.md) - [Animated Show-Inspired Butane Torches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/butane-torch.md) - [Anti-Gun Water Toys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/antigun-water-toys-jayhayspray20-promotes-change-in-societys-relationship-w.md) - [Adult-Targeted Foam Disc Blasters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/disc-blaster.md) - [Sci-Fi Film-Themed Dart Toys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/starfleet-phaser-blaster.md) - [Sculptural Paper Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fragmenti.md) - [Stone Paper-Made Cameras](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/paper-shoot.md)
