# Toy Brick Picture Cameras The Legotron Camera is a Snapshot of DIY Success By Amelia Roblin | Published 2011-04-05 | Unique Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/legotron-camera References: [dvice](http://dvice.com/archives/2011/04/this-camera-was.php) & [carynorton](http://carynorton.com/legotron-mark-i) When I was younger, I used to make doll houses and pen holders from [LEGO](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lego-ideas-polaroid-onestep-sx70-camera-set), but even then, I never could have dreamed that something like this Legotron Camera could actually work. Alas, creator Cary Norton build this playful piece of technology from a collection of borrowed [toy blocks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lego-typewriter), a $40 lens from [eBay](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nike-swoosh), a glass slot, a lens board and good old chamber defined by the space the knickknacks surround. The 4x5 specimen of frolicsome photographic equipment boasts a 127mm ƒ4.7 lens, dimensions of 7in by 6.5in by 7in, and fantastic pictures. Four images taken by the lego camera are featured on the photographer's blog, revealing a spellbinding style of misty black and white. The Legotron Camera may not be as fine-tuned as store-bought counterparts, but it offers an artsy flavor of form and final product. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.2/10 - Popularity: 69% | Activity: 50% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Unique](https://www.trendhunter.com/unique) > [Inventions](https://www.trendhunter.com/inventions) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Toy Brick DIY Gadgets:** Opportunity for companies to explore the merging of building block toys and electronics to create unique gadgets and devices. - **Alternative Camera Designs:** Alternative camera designs using non-traditional materials and re-imagined dimensions could inspire new market opportunities and attract creative individuals. - **Arts and Crafts-technology Hybrids:** The combination of traditional hands-on arts and crafts with modern technology has disruptive potential for artistic expression and imaginative design. ### Who This Affects Most - **Toy and Game Industry:** Toy and game companies can explore partnerships with tech firms to create experimental products that merge traditional play with modern technology. - **Photography Industry:** The photography industry can expand its market and appeal to creative individuals by experimenting with alternative camera designs that challenge traditional ideas of what a camera should be. - **Arts and Crafts Industry:** The arts and crafts industry can collaborate with tech companies or independent engineers to create innovative merging of traditional techniques with modern technology. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Vintage Building Block Cameras](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lego-ideas-polaroid-onestep-sx70-camera-set.md) - [Vintage Projector Puzzle Kits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/magic-lantern.md) - [Block Puzzle Microscope Sets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/functional-microscope.md) - [Old Film-Honoring Puzzle Collectibles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tribute-camera.md) - [Functional Gingerbread Cameras](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gingerbread-camera.md) - [3D-Scanning Block Devices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ascand-for-lego-3d-scanner.md) - [Retro Puzzle Block Computers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lego-fan-build.md) - [Vintage Puzzle Gramophones](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lego-gramophone.md) - [Lego-Centric Apps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/brick-my-world.md)
