# Building Block Robot Artists The Legonardo Robot Can Draw and Fashionably Pull Off a Red Sweater By Andrew Sztein | Published 2013-02-28 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/legonardo-robot References: [laughingsquid](http://laughingsquid.com/legonardo-a-drawing-robot-made-entirely-of-lego-bricks/) & [badassdigest](http://badassdigest.com/2013/02/26/watch-this-amazing-creepy-drawing-robot-made-from-legos) When Daniele Bendettelli came up with the idea of an [autonomous drawing machine](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mini-robots), the Legonardo robot was born. Made entirely out of [LEGO](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flying-machine-set), the Legonardo robot was inspired by the 18th-century creations of Swiss inventors Pierre Jaquet-Droz and Henri Maillardet. The two Swiss inventors designed several automated (but more mechanical, less electrical) drawing machines called automata. In case you're worried about Legonardo becoming self-aware and going on a drawing rampage that threatens all of mankind, have no fear. The Legonardo robot is fully controlled by Bendettelli's laptop software. The drawings that Legonardo produces are pre-programmed using the same software. Beyond his very cool drawing abilities, Legonardo also manages to pull off spectacles and a red sweater like it's nobody's business. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.3/10 - Popularity: 6% | Activity: 26% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, South America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [AI](https://www.trendhunter.com/ai) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Autonomous Drawing Machines:** The rise of autonomous drawing machines presents disruptive innovation opportunities in the fields of art and design. - **LEGO Robotics:** The integration of LEGO in robotics technology opens up disruptive innovation opportunities in the field of educational toys and STEM education. - **Automata Resurgence:** The resurgence of automata-inspired creations offers disruptive innovation opportunities in the realm of mechanical and interactive sculptures. ### Where This Applies - **Art and Design:** The integration of autonomous drawing machines in the art and design industry can revolutionize the creation process and push the boundaries of artistic expression. - **Education:** The use of LEGO robotics as a teaching tool can disrupt the education industry by providing an engaging and hands-on approach to learning STEM subjects. - **Fine Arts and Sculpture:** The development of automata-inspired sculptures can introduce disruptive innovations in the fine arts industry, combining traditional craftsmanship with interactive technology. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Historic Bird-Like Contraption Recreations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flying-machine-set.md) - [Interactive Bloclk Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dancing-hula-girl.md) - [Iconic Artwork Toy Sets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lego-art-mona-lisa-set.md) - [Iconic Artist Toy Sets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lego-ideas-bob-ross.md) - [Reimagined Puzzled Artful Paintings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/portrait-of-a-woman-in-a-hat.md) - [Building Block Art Sets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/art-project-create-together.md) - [Galactic Robot-Inspired Puzzle Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lego-r2d2.md) - [Motion Liquid Art Distortions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lidris.md) - [Mechanical Heart Puzzle Sets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/motorized-beating-heart.md)
