# Building Block Bonsai The LEGO Pine by Makoto Azuma is Impressively Detailed and Realistic By Meghan Young | Published 2012-11-27 | Life-Stages Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lego-pine References: [thisiscolossal](http://www.thisiscolossal.com/2012/11/lego-bonsai-tree-by-makoto-azuma/) & [azumamakoto](http://azumamakoto.com/) The LEGO Pine sculpture is not what is typically expected of Botanical artist Makoto Azuma. He has become renowned for what he and his green thumb can accomplish. Creating everything from [boxed bonsai](http://www.trendhunter.com/trends/makoto-azuma) to [bottled botany](http://www.trendhunter.com/trends/makoto-azuma2) as well as working with [Perrier-Jouet](http://www.trendhunter.com/trends/perrier-jouet-champagne-makoto-azuma-floral-limited-edition) to recreate their packaging, the Japanese botanist has always worked with live materials. Nevertheless, the LEGO Pine sculpture shows he is willing to experiment. Exhaustingly detailed, the LEGO Pine is a testament to Azuma's intimate understanding of the botanical world. Despite the [pixelated materials](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lego-botanicals-le-florist-flower-truck) used, he has successfully captured the multi-colored hue of the bark as well as the undulating surface of the moss surrounding it. The LEGO Pine is absolutely impressive. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.1/10 - Popularity: 36% | Activity: 48% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Life-Stages](https://www.trendhunter.com/life-stages) > [Toys](https://www.trendhunter.com/toys) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **LEGO Art:** Opportunity for creating lifelike sculptures with LEGO bricks to appeal to young and adult audiences alike - **Boxed Bonsai:** Opportunity for creating miniature plant sculptures, enclosed in boxes, to add an eco-friendly vibe to any interior throughout industries such as home decor and gifts - **Bottled Botany:** Opportunity for creating unique live or faux plants in bottles or other clear vessels to add a touch of greenery and style to interior design within industries such as furniture and decor ### Where This Applies - **Toy Industry:** Collaborating with botanical artists to create LEGO botanical sculptures to appeal to young customers and adults alike - **Interior Design Industry:** Integrating unique boxed bonsai and bottled botany within interior design to add a peaceful and eco-friendly ambiance while utilizing natural materials - **Gifting Industry:** Offering boxed bonsai or bottled botany as a gift item for special events or occasions such as housewarming parties, weddings, or corporate events, while promoting a connection with nature ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Cork Bottle Terrarium Puzzles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lego-terrarium.md) - [Botanical Building Block Sets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lego-orchid.md) - [Miniature Building Block Plants](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lego-icons-tiny-plants.md) - [Botanical Garden Puzzle Sets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/botanical-garden-set.md) - [Minimalist Building Block Flowers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lego-cherry-blossoms-set.md) - [Floral Building Block Workshops](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/botanicals-creativity-workshop.md) - [Artist-Inspired Flower Puzzle Sets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/belgiandesigner.md) - [Artwork-Inspired Building Block Kits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lego-hokusai-the-great-wave.md) - [Vibrant Flower Puzzle Sets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/botanial-collection.md)
