# Gruesome Gardening Accidents Leech Affixes Itself Onto Woman's Eyeball By Cowbag | Published 2009-04-24 | Unique Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/leeches-on-eyeballs-gruesome-gardening-accidents References: [news.au](http://www.news.com.au/story/0,27574,25361409-13762,00.html) Oh, this is just horrible. Doctors in Australia were forced to think outside the box when a leech attached itself to an Australian woman’s eyeball. The incident occurred after the woman got soil in her face while gardening. Her lucky husband then got to watch as the leech wriggled across [her eyeball](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/koushicare-lumineyes) to safety underneath her eyelid. Of course, Steve-O thought it was a good idea and attached a leech to his own eyeball--URGH! The good news is that should this happen to you, saline is the way to remove the leech. It kind of makes sense, especially if you think of what happens to snails when they go near chalk or salt. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.7/10 - Popularity: 27% | Activity: 77% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Unique](https://www.trendhunter.com/unique) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Leech-related Infections:** Opportunity for developing innovative methods to prevent and treat leech-related infections. - **Outdoor Safety Technology:** Disruptive innovation opportunity to create advanced safety technologies for outdoor activities to prevent accidents like leech affixing onto eyeballs. - **Nature-based Therapies:** Opportunity to explore and develop nature-based therapies for eye health and well-being. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Medical Devices:** Disruptive innovation opportunities in the medical devices sector to develop improved tools for removing leeches from sensitive body parts. - **Outdoor Gear:** Opportunity for disruption in the outdoor gear industry to create protective gear for eyes during outdoor activities. - **Wellness and Spa:** Opportunity for the wellness and spa industry to incorporate nature-based eye treatments into their offerings. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Mess-Free Gardening Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/leaflow.md) - [Heated Stye Relief Products](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/thermamedx-evertears.md) - [Eye-Adorned Furry Mules](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/eyeball-mules.md) - [Blink-Moisturizing Contacts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/terasaki-institute.md) - [Eyelid Health Campaigns](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/look-at-the-lids.md) - [Pet-Focused Eye Lubricants](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/millpledge-veterinary.md) - [Nature Care Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/livio.md) - [Hyper-Realistic Flesh Objects](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/junji-ito.md) - [Coagulating Lip Oils](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kiss-of-death-lip-oils.md)
