# LED Supernovas Michael Pendry's Eco-Friendly Lighting Installation Shines Over Munich By Katie Cordrey | Published 2009-12-24 | Eco Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/led-superstars References: [ecofriend.org](http://www.ecofriend.org/entry/eco-tech-siemens-lights-up-world-s-biggest-revolving-christmas-star/) & [w1.siemens](http://w1.siemens.com/press/en/events/corporate/2009-11-29.php) The Siemens ‘Superstar’ -- a gigantic Christmas star light display created in collaboration with Munich light artist Michael Pendry and Munich City Utilities -- is lighting up the sky over Munich. To bring the artist’s vision to life, Siemens fitted a wind turbine with 9000 LEDs. The display is as bright as 20,000 Christmas candles, but uses only as much electricity as a hand-held hair dryer. The Superstar can be seen from 4:30 p.m. to midnight and from 4:53 a.m. to 8 a.m. and will be on display through January 6th, 2010. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.3/10 - Popularity: 83% | Activity: 97% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 90% men, 10% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Eco-friendly Lighting:** Opportunity: Develop innovative, energy-efficient lighting solutions that utilize LED technology. - **Sustainable Installations:** Opportunity: Create visually stunning installations that incorporate renewable energy sources, such as wind turbines. - **Low-power Consumption:** Opportunity: Design products that provide high brightness while consuming very little electricity. ### Who This Affects Most - **Lighting Industry:** Opportunity: Transform traditional lighting systems by adopting LED technology and creating energy-efficient products. - **Art Installation Industry:** Opportunity: Combine art and technology to develop sustainable installations that captivate audiences. - **Renewable Energy Industry:** Opportunity: Integrate renewable energy sources, like wind turbines, into various applications such as lighting installations. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Carbon-Neutral LED Trees](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/led-tree.md) - [Illuminated Christmas Tree Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/all-lit-up.md) - [Cutout Christmas Tree Displays](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/christmas-tree-display.md) - [Wireless Solar-Powered Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/solarpowered-lights.md) - [Suspended Lighting Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/suspended-lighting-installation.md) - [Sparkling Illuminated Festive Wreaths](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/starry-wreath.md) - [Karaoke Christmas Trees](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/holiday-tree-display.md) - [Dazzling Gradient Lighting Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/star-bulb.md) - [Sustainable Light Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/geolectric-lantern.md)
