# Space-Responsive Gadgets Leap Motion Transforms Workspaces Into Intuitive Touchpads By Shiori Mine | Published 2012-05-22 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/leap-motion References: [mashable](http://mashable.com/2012/05/21/leap-motion/) & [leapmotion](http://www.leapmotion.com/) Leap Motion is taking [Apple's](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/magic-mouse-touch) ubiquitous gestures to new heights by turning your living space into the touch pad itself. Similar to the [Xbox's](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/game-start-gaming-controller) Kinect, the developers have created a 3D motion controller that allows users to operate their computers with intuitive hand gestures -- with 200 times more precision than Kinect. The USB peripheral alters an 8 cubic-foot space into a fully responsive keyboard and [hands-free mouse](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/melt-mouse). The device appears to a number of consumers ranging from avid gamers to zealous graphic designers. It allows presenters to zoom and create demonstrations that rival the powers of Prezi and 3D-rendering software. It will also revolutionize the gaming industry by continuing to replace physical devices in favor of hand motions. Leap Motion has already begun taking pre-orders for the gadget. At a reasonable price of $70, this may be the next must-have tech accessory. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.8/10 - Popularity: 77% | Activity: 89% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Intuitive Hand Gestures:** Leap Motion's 3D motion controller enables users to operate computers with intuitive hand gestures, opening up opportunities for more natural and interactive user interfaces. - **Gesture-controlled Workspaces:** Leap Motion's space-responsive gadget transforms living spaces into touchpads, creating new possibilities for interactive work environments that use gestures for navigation and control. - **Replacement of Physical Devices:** Leap Motion's technology has the potential to disrupt industries, such as gaming and presentations, by replacing physical devices with hand motions, offering a more immersive and intuitive user experience. ### Where This Applies - **Computer Hardware:** Leap Motion's 3D motion controller, along with space-responsive gadgets, presents opportunities for innovative advancements in computer hardware that enable gesture-based interactions. - **Software Development:** The development of software that supports intuitive hand gestures and gesture-controlled workspaces can drive innovation in the software development industry, enhancing user experiences across various applications. - **Gaming:** Leap Motion's space-responsive gadget and precise hand gesture control have the potential to disrupt the gaming industry by offering more immersive and intuitive gameplay experiences, replacing traditional physical devices with hand motions. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Gesture-Controlled Apps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spatial-touch.md) - [3D Haptic Peripherals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/minverse.md) - [Touchless Interaction Platforms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/phantomy-software.md) - [Wearable Tech Interfaces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/meta-smart-wristband.md) - [Wearable Desktop Control Peripherals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/prolo-ring.md) - [Screen-Equipped Computer Peripherals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/magic-mouse-touch.md) - [Neural Interface Wristbands](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/new-wristband.md) - [Hand-Tracking Devices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/palmplug.md) - [Gesture-Controlling Smart Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wow-mouse-app.md)
