# Foliage Thermostats 'Leaf' Thermometer Changes Color Depending On Temperature By Katherinev123 | Published 2012-07-03 | Unique Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/leaf-thermometer References: [psfk](http://www.psfk.com/2012/07/leaf-thermometer.html) & [japantrendshop](http://www.japantrendshop.com/leaf-thermometer-paper-temperature-reader-p-1453.html) While it may look like a simple piece of foliage, the Leaf thermometer is far from it. Designed by Hideyuki Kumagai, the Leaf thermometer is a [leaf-shaped](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/leaf-house-1) [temperature measuring device](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/switchbot-weather-station) that will actually [change color](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pangolin) according to different degrees of hotness or coldness. When the temperature is warm and about 20 to 25°C, the Leaf will stay its natural green hue. As it gets hotter, it will turn a bright yellow, but if it gets colder, it will turn brown. The Leaf thermometer is made from paper and is currently available at Japan Trend Shop. You can buy it in a pack of five large leaves or a pack of eight small ones, which the site says is great for scattering around the office or home to "tell you the temperature in the most innovative way possible." ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.6/10 - Popularity: 36% | Activity: 35% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Unique](https://www.trendhunter.com/unique) > [Bizarre](https://www.trendhunter.com/bizarre) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Color-changing Thermometers:** Opportunity to develop temperature measuring devices that change color based on different degrees of hotness or coldness. - **Nature-inspired Thermometers:** Potential for designing thermometers in creative shapes inspired by natural elements like leaves. - **Innovative Temperature Monitoring:** Opportunity to create unique and captivating ways to measure and display temperature information. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Home Decor:** Disruptive innovation opportunity for incorporating temperature-sensing elements into decorative items and enhancing home aesthetics. - **Stationery and Office Supplies:** Opportunity to introduce temperature-measuring devices in the form of office supplies or desk decorations. - **Gift and Novelty Items:** Opportunity to create unique and fascinating gift items that incorporate temperature-sensitive elements. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Toy-Like Duck-Inspired Thermometers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ducky-thermometer.md) - [Connected Plant Care Sensors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/krado-plant-sensor.md) - [Accurate Temperature Monitoring Devices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wireless-hygrometer-thermometer.md) - [Temperature-Monitoring Earrings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/thermal-earring.md) - [Leaf-Inspired Colorful Trays](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/leaf-tray.md) - [Climate-Responsive Color-Changing Paints](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/colorchanging-paint-1.md) - [Touchscreen Thermometer Apps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/touchscreen-thermometer-apps.md) - [Mess-Free Gardening Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/leaflow.md) - [Greenery-Inspired Textured Vases](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/leaf-textured-ceramic-vase.md)
