# Airy Arboreal-Inspired Abodes The Leaf House Embraces Nature and Offers Plenty of Space By Vasiliki Marapas | Published 2013-10-14 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/leaf-houses References: [dezeen](http://www.dezeen.com/2013/10/11/the-leaf-house-by-sjk-architects/) & [blowging](http://blowging.com/the-leaf-house-by-sjk-architects/) SJK Architects have created a five-part, disengaged home with a unique leaf-canopy design in Alibaug, India, titled ‘The Leaf House.’ The house is comprised of five separate rooms that are spread out around courtyard; a leaf-shaped concrete roof standing on angular columns shelters each room. The wall-less living area brings new meaning to the phrase “open concept” and enjoys a fabulous view and easy access to a delightful lily pond and pool. Several of the glass walls on the other pods can also be removed for a similar open-air effect. Speaking of their clients needs, the architects explained, “The client enjoyed the idea of pods [that were] overlapping but distinct to house each part of the home. They [wanted] the journey between pods to be a sculpted open space encompassing native trees.” This house is a perfect space for outdoorsy, nature lovers. And if your housemates are getting on your nerves, you can seek solace in an entirely separate pod – now that’s what I call ‘space.’ ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.9/10 - Popularity: 71% | Activity: 69% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen X - Top markets: Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Leaf-canopy Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Explore the use of leaf-inspired canopy designs in architecture to create unique and nature-inspired living spaces. - **Open Concept Living:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop innovative ways to remove physical barriers in living spaces, creating seamless transitions between indoors and outdoors. - **Pod-based Architecture:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Explore the concept of modular, pod-based architecture to offer flexible and distinct living spaces within a single structure. ### Where This Applies - **Architecture:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Integrate nature-inspired designs and modular concepts in architectural projects to create innovative and sustainable living spaces. - **Interior Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop creative solutions to blend nature and interior design, offering seamless connections between indoor and outdoor environments. - **Real Estate:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Explore the market demand for unique, eco-friendly homes that offer distinct living spaces to cater to diverse lifestyles and preferences. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Landscape-Integrated Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-by-the-grove.md) - [Natural Landscape-Surrounding Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/under-the-rain-trees.md) - [Nature-Connecting Vacation Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-by-the-lake.md) - [Curvaceous Brick Forest Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/asmalay.md) - [Plant-Covered Concrete Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/villa-kd45.md) - [Nature-Inspired Bungalow Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/maurpankhi.md) - [Biophilic Mountain Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/villa-prakriti-biophilic.md) - [Nature-Immersive Tranquil Resorts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/treehouse-villas.md) - [Living Landscape Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hedge-and-arbour-house.md)
