# Woven Willow Artwork Laura Bacon Creates Monumental Artworks by Weaving Branches Together By Jessica Marren | Published 2013-06-05 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/laura-bacon References: [lauraellenbacon](http://www.lauraellenbacon.com) Laura Bacon creates these large scale sculptures using the same techniques used by birds and insects in nature when they are making their nests. Through weaving, twisting and patching, she is able to construct these extraordinary whimsical initiations. Working from the inside out of each sculpture, Laura Bacon only uses materials readily available from the earth. This means each remarkable creations is completely biodegradable. The thought of these intricate masterpieces slowly decomposing overtime is bitter sweet. Hanging from high from tree tops, winding up and around trunks or climbing up the side of buildings, these amazing sculptures evoke feelings of whimsical lands and dreamlike atmospheres. Laura Bacon is creating strikingly organic installations and turning commonplace materials into astonishing works of art. I can only imagine the intrigued reaction I would have if I stumbled upon one of these human made nests while walking in the woods! ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.8/10 - Popularity: 57% | Activity: 18% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Large Scale Sculptures:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in creating monumental artworks using unconventional materials and techniques. - **Biodegradable Art:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in using materials that are environmentally friendly and decompose over time. - **Whimsical Installations:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in creating magical and dreamlike atmospheres through artistic installations. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Art and Design:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in the art world by exploring unconventional materials and techniques for large-scale sculptures. - **Sustainability:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in the field of sustainability by creating biodegradable artworks that reduce environmental impact. - **Tourism and Recreation:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in the tourism industry by incorporating whimsical installations in natural settings to enhance visitor experiences. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Delicate Basket Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/basket-sculpture.md) - [Folk Creature Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fibredog.md) - [Sophisticated Upcycled Home Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/basket-sculptures.md) - [Science-Backed Wooden Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/seed-stories.md) - [Paper-Made Mosaic Artwork](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/real-life-architecture-exhibition.md) - [Resin Gravity Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-great-tree.md) - [Otherworldly Wooden Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wooden-sculptures-1.md) - [Tree-Based Material Products](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/abney-effect.md) - [Sculptural Biomaterial Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wevolve-labs.md)
