# Lawn-Covered Residences The Laufnitzdorf House is an Eccentrically Modern Farm By Meghan Young | Published 2013-12-19 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/laufnitzdorf-house References: [homesandhues](http://www.homesandhues.com/The-Mysterious-Lawn-Home-of-Frohnleiten-Austria/) & [ortisbau.at](http://www.ortisbau.at/) The Laufnitzdorf House shows one way in which a house can simultaneously [blend into its scenery](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-by-the-grove) while also standing out. It is almost [entirely covered in grass](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hedge-and-arbour-house), minus the windows of course. Yet as eccentric as the Laufnitzdorf House is, it somehow makes complete sense. Of course, it helps that it [belongs to a farmer](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/a-house-in-the-farm). One that appreciates being different. Designed by Reinhold Weichlbauer and Albert Josef Ortis of Weichlbauer Ortis Architects, the Laufnitzdorf House is located in Frohnleiten, Austria. Ortis states, "The client is a nonconformist type. Only an unconventional person can handle this kind of architecture." Interestingly, the interior of the Laufnitzdorf House is as modern as the exterior. It would have been more expected if it was rustic. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.6/10 - Popularity: 56% | Activity: 74% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Grass-covered Architecture:** There is an opportunity for architects to experiment with eco-friendly designs and sustainable materials to create unique and unconventional buildings. - **Blending in and Standing Out Simultaneously:** Designers can seek to create visually striking buildings that harmoniously blend into the natural environment. - **Eccentric Minimalism:** There is an opportunity to embrace eccentricity in modern architecture while maintaining a minimalist aesthetic. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Architecture:** Architects can explore unconventional designs and materials to create eco-friendly buildings that stand out. - **Farming:** Farmers can explore unique ways to incorporate their love for nature into their living spaces and homes. - **Interior Design:** Interior designers can experiment with creating a modern and minimalist interior design that complements an eccentric exterior architecture. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Grass-Filled Orchard Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bliesgau-house.md) - [Landscape-Blending Concrete Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/el-pastizal.md) - [Nature-Rooted Family Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/haus-am-lagnesberg.md) - [Perched Grassy Hillside Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/meadow-house.md) - [Leaf-Inspired Countryside Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/leaf-house-1.md) - [Discreet Architectural Polish Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/loop-house.md) - [Low-Lying Mid-Century Belgian Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-in-the-fields.md) - [Greenhouse-Topped Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wooden-house-1.md) - [Cave-Like Folded Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wild-house.md)
