According to Metropolis Magazine, "Neil Poulton's latest lighting design was the product of technical ingenuity, exhaustive trial and error—and self-interest. “I am the main client,” he says. “It was designed for me.” The Paris-based Scottish designer wanted an [adjustable lamp](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-delta-lamp) that would cast a wash of light over his desk but could be easily moved out of the way when not in use. After experimenting with concepts over several months, he built a deceptively simple-looking system: a plastic-encased fluorescent tube that cantilevers on a thin chrome stem." ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.1/10 - Popularity: 5% | Activity: 20% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: South America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Minimalist Lighting Design:** Opportunity to create sleek and functional lighting solutions by incorporating simple and minimalistic design elements. - **Adjustable Lamps:** Opportunity to develop lamps that offer flexibility in terms of lighting angles and positioning to cater to individual preferences. - **Self-designed Products:** Opportunity for designers to create products specifically tailored to their own needs and preferences, leading to innovative and personalized solutions. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Lighting:** Innovations in fluorescent lighting designs that focus on simplicity and functionality can cater to the demand for sleek and modern lighting solutions. - **Furniture and Home Decor:** Integration of adjustable lamps in furniture designs can offer versatility and customization options in terms of lighting solutions. - **Product Design:** Self-designed products that meet individual requirements can drive innovation in various product categories, providing unique and tailored solutions. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Simplistic Angular Desktop Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/linear-table-lamp.md) - [Space-Saving Desk Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spacesaving-desk-lamp.md) - [Weighted Multi-Position Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/minimalist-desk-lamp-design.md) - [Suspended Halo Light Fixtures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lamplox-minimalist-floor-lamp.md) - [Structural Two-Part Lighting Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/luno-lamp.md) - [Stunningly Minimalist Lighting Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/minimalist-lighting-design.md) - [Minimalist Mysterious Lamp Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/auge-light-mini.md) - [Shiny Structural Lamp Capsules](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pose-lighting.md) - [Industrial Contemporary Lighting Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shop-light.md)
