# Hologram Hooligan Detectors The U.S. Government and FAA Launch the LaserReport Webpage By Omar Yusuf | Published 2011-10-31 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/laserreport References: [gizmodo](http://gizmodo.com/5854536/faa-enlists-the-web-for-reporting-laser-shenanigans) & [faa.gov](http://www.faa.gov/aircraft/safety/report/laserinfo/) LaserReport is a new, [social media-driven tool](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ai-reporting) developed by the Federal Aviation Agency in order to effectively deal with one of the most elusive, yet threatening dangers in the sky: lasers. As increasingly [powerful laser pointers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aipowered-portable-laser-engraver) continue to flood American toy markets from popular East Asian vendors, the number of criminal incidents involving a misguided teen or inebriated adult shining a beam toward an aircraft inevitably rises. In 2005, for instance, the number of reports was a steady 283, whereas that statistic increased tenfold by 2010, finally reaching 2,836 annual incidents. So in the hopes of ensuring safety above and justice below, the [FAA](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dji-mini-4-pro) has launched LaserReport, an innovative new tool that allows pilots, professional air-traffic controllers and civilians to immediately notify authorities if some wisecracker is shining lasers at landing planes! Let's face it, pointing a concentrated beam at a pilot: potentially fatal and disastrous. On the other hand, pointing a laser at the ground, causing your cat to follow it everywhere, is always fulfilling. So why not try the alternative? ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 0.8/10 - Popularity: 3% | Activity: 14% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Computers](https://www.trendhunter.com/computers) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Hologram Hooligan Detectors:** Development of new detection technologies for laser pointer attacks on aircrafts. - **Social Media-driven Safety Tools:** Innovation in social media tools that can assist with safety, such as LaserReport. - **Increased Laser Pointer Regulations:** Growing adoption of regulatory measures and mandates to limit distribution and use of high powered laser pointers. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Aviation Technology:** The development of new technology and tools for safety management in aviation, such as LaserReport. - **Consumer Goods:** Regulations and heightened scrutiny of toy manufacturers specifically related to the production and distribution of high-powered laser pointers. - **Social Media:** The development of social media-driven tools that focus on safety and security management, such as LaserReport. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Laser-Powered Mosquito Zappers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/photon-matrix.md) - [Tiny Animated Laser Projectors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/laserabc-laser-show-projector.md) - [Laser Technology Smoking Devices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/laser-technology-smoking-device.md) - [Long-Range Laser Flashlights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lumitwin-dl700.md) - [Drill-Guiding Laser Attachments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/laser-attachment.md) - [Laser-Emitting Cat Collars](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cat-collar.md) - [Digital Laser-Powered Blaster Toys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/laser-tag-set.md) - [Glow-In-The-Dark Lasso Toys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/loop-lasso.md) - [Portable Drone Detectors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dedrone.md)
