# Fruity Etchings The Laser-Engraved Banana is a Work of Edible Art By Michael Hines | Published 2010-11-14 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/laser-engraved-banana References: [laughingsquid](http://laughingsquid.com/laser-engraved-banana/) & [walmink](http://www.walmink.com/) I used to think that engravings and etchings were only for jewelry and woodworks until I saw the Laser-Engraved Banana. This banana engraving was created by Wouter Walmink using a program called Repper to design the pattern. The best part about the Laser-Engraved Banana isn't the beautiful patterns adorning the peel, it is the fact that the [banana is still edible](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chocolatedipped-banana)! I am curious to see what else Wouter Walmink engraves in the future. My vote is for [an orange](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/apeel). Keepin' it fruity for the win. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.8/10 - Popularity: 79% | Activity: 88% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 10% men, 90% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Modern](https://www.trendhunter.com/modern) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Edible Art:** The combination of technology and food opens up the world of edible art, where potentially limitless display designs could be created on consumable products. - **Laser Etching:** The proliferation of laser etching technology has the potential to revolutionize the food industry by offering a new way to customize and enhance products. - **Design as a Service:** The development of software tools that leverage computer-aided design and machine learning to enable customization of fruits and vegetables has the potential to create a new design-as-a-service offering. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Food and Beverage:** The technology of laser engraving can add a new dimension to the way food is presented and marketed. - **Gifting Industry:** Laser-engraved fruit can serve as an excellent gift option offering innovatively designed and edible presents. - **Arts and Crafts:** The art of laser etching fresh produce has the potential to mark a turning point for DIY enthusiasts, food bloggers, and craft masters who can create customized and edible designs to make their creations stand out. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sticker-Free Laser-Etched Mangoes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/westfalia-fruit.md) - [Laser-Engraved Chocolate Bars](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/laser-engraved-chocolate-bars.md) - [Economical Laser Engraver Devices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/portable-laser-engraver.md) - [Edible QR Codes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/interiqr.md) - [Fruit-Inspired Design Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/soft-grounds.md) - [Fruit Peel Lip Oils](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/banana-brulee-lip-oil.md) - [Portable Laser Engraving Devices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/xtool-f1.md) - [AI-Powered Laser Engravers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lumitool-20w-fiber-laser-engraver.md) - [Peelable Banana Gummies](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gummy-banana.md)
