The modernist home is designed by Richard de la Riva and Gavin Affleck of Affleck de la Riva Architects who brought their monumental concept to life in the heart of an [inner city neighbourhood](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/delancy-residence). This [semi-detached residence sits on the hillside](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mountainous-home) and boasts an asymmetrical design that is inspired by its surrounding and uneven topography. Its neighbourhood's historic house styles include residences built after the [Arts and Crafts and Neo-Gothic movement](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/le-petit-merlot), periods that were both referenced when creating this contemporary abode. In addition to its monumental bay windows, the two storey Landsdowne House features an open dining room and living area and a gorgeous garden that is a favourite of its inhabitants. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.8/10 - Popularity: 37% | Activity: 9% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Modernist Home Design:** The trend in modernist home design is expanding and disrupting architectural traditions in urban neighbourhoods. - **Asymmetrical Architecture:** Growing interest in asymmetrical architecture is creating innovative designs that blend distinctive forms with surrounding neighbourhoods. - **Blending Traditional and Contemporary Design:** A trend toward blending traditional and contemporary design elements is bringing new life to older, inner city neighbourhoods. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Architecture:** Innovative architects are disrupting traditional designs with modernist, asymmetrical, and blended contemporary and traditional designs. - **Urban Planning:** Urban planners and designers have opportunities to create thoughtfully integrated designs within historic neighbourhoods that blend past and present architectural styles. - **Real Estate:** Developers can take advantage of the trend toward unique, contemporary home designs and innovate by creating modernist-style homes in historically traditional neighbourhoods. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Mid-Century Style Montreal Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/residence-ave-duchastel.md) - [Landscape-Honoring Modern Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/des-forges-residence.md) - [Precisely Designed Toronto Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/baby-point.md) - [Discrete Lakeside Modern Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/palissade.md) - [Thoughtful Lakeside Home Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lakeside-living.md) - [Gabled Rural Serene Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/des-lauriers-house.md) - [Compact Calming Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/a-sheltered-space.md) - [Contemporary Mountainous Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mountainous-home.md) - [Forest-Nestled Dynamic Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/q88-residence.md)
