# Incessant Ice Circles Jim Denevan's Lake Baikal Art Project is Unrivaled in Scale By Amelia Roblin | Published 2010-08-13 | Eco Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lake-baikal-art References: [jimdenevan](http://www.jimdenevan.com/news.htm) The Lake Baikal art project headed by Jim Denevan is set to break the record for the largest earth art installation after the artist's previous performance in the Nevada desert. In this piece, Denevan and his team used brooms on the ice to create beautifully round impressions in the snow. Appropriately, this lake in Siberia is the world's largest, which means the possibilities of this Lake Baikal art exhibition are limited only by the muscles and the minds of the eight participants and their brooms. Blistering winds and sub-zero temperatures had to be endured throughout the execution of the Lake Baikal art installation making it even more of an epic feat in the unforgiving landscape. The process that began in March of this year has been documented on video to enforce the message that art-making is often foremost about the process. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.6/10 - Popularity: 90% | Activity: 99% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Earth Art Installations:** Innovative earth art installations are a new trend in the art world, providing opportunities for artists to explore large-scale projects and new mediums. - **Extreme Weather Art:** As climate change progresses, artists are taking advantage of extreme weather conditions to create unique and thought-provoking art pieces. - **Process Documentaries:** Documentaries that capture the artistic process and the making of large-scale installations are becoming increasingly popular and offer new opportunities for filmmakers to showcase these works of art. ### Who This Affects Most - **Art and Design:** The art and design industry can take advantage of the trend towards large-scale, earth art installations to showcase innovative and thought-provoking pieces. - **Tourism:** The tourism industry can capitalize on the popularity of these large-scale art installations, offering unique experiences to travelers looking for something different. - **Film and Documentary:** The film and documentary industry can capture the making of these installations and provide viewers with a behind-the-scenes look at the artistic process. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Large-Scale Sculpture Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/desert-x1.md) - [Interactive Kinetic Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/interactive-kinetic-sculptures.md) - [Kilometer-Long Museums](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zaishui-art-museum.md) - [Desert Reflective Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shadow-travelling.md) - [Snow Landscape Sundial Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/light-time.md) - [Unique Interactive Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-aurora.md) - [Eclipse-Themed Rooftop Artworks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arc-zero.md) - [Monumental Air Installation](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/iwagumi-air-scape.md) - [Elaborate Winter Activities](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-city-of-harbin.md)
