# Lilypad External Storage The Lacie Little Disk was Designed Outside of the Box By Amelia Roblin | Published 2012-09-02 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lacie-little-disk References: [industrialdesignserved](http://www.industrialdesignserved.com/gallery/Little-Disk/3041935) & [behance.net](http://www.behance.net/gallery/Little-Disk/3041935) With respect to the parts found within the average external hard drive, there really isn't a good reason why it should be manufactured into the rigid shape of a rectangular prism. The [Lacie](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lacie-mobile-drive) Little Disk may require a more organic mold than the industrial box, but it encloses its contents more efficiently and offers additional benefits. Vincent Claudepierre's [slim design](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/usb4-slim-nvme-ssd-enclosure) makes it easy for the computer peripheral to be stashed in a drawer or tucked into a briefcase. It's slightly rounded form is particularly well suited to flexible fabric laptop bags. Its [USB connector cord](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/adata-sc730) can be wound around the edge of the disc for convenient and tangle-free storage. The data capacity of the Lacie Little Disk is 40GB, 60GB or 80 gigabytes and its contemporary and vibrant aesthetic is just as appealing. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.8/10 - Popularity: 35% | Activity: 12% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Gadgets](https://www.trendhunter.com/gadgets) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Flexible External Hard Drive Designs:** Designing external hard drives in flexible forms catered to the consumers' needs presents an opportunity for disruptive and innovative storage solutions. - **Organic-shaped Technology:** Innovating the exterior design of technology devices with more rounded forms allows for more efficient use and convenience for consumers. - **Tangle-free USB Cables:** Manufacturing external hard drives with USB cables that can be wound around the edge of the disc creates a new disruptive approach to storage portability. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Technology:** Developing flexible and organic-shaped external hard drives is an opportunity for companies operating in the technology industry to innovate product design. - **Fashion:** Creating flexible and lightweight external hard drives in varying colors can be a disruptive innovation opportunity for companies operating in the fashion industry to match consumer style preferences. - **Consumer Electronics Retail:** The manufacturing of external hard drives with tangle-free USB cables presents an opportunity for companies in the consumer electronics retail industry to provide a more user-friendly and convenient product for consumers. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Playful External Hard-Disk Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cargo-hard-drive.md) - [Monolithic Desktop Hard Drives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/unidentifed-hard-disk-drive.md) - [Future-Facing External Storage Drives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lacie-mobile-drive.md) - [Desk-Mounted Hard Drives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hard-drive-concept.md) - [Icon-Shaped USB Drives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/folderdrive.md) - [Shipping Container Storage Drives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cargo-hard-drive1.md) - [Laptop-Attached Hub Drives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/case-x.md) - [Textural Mobile Storage Drives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/compact-ssd.md) - [Charming Retro Storage](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/floppy-disk-inspired-sd-card.md)
